The Chinese gambling island of Macau has shown that it is still growing, as revenues for the month of August grew by 5.5%, the second highest amount ever for the world's largest gambling market.

Revenues for the month were 26.1 billion patacas ($3.3 billion USD), which was topped only by October 2011's 26.8 billion patacas. The rise in revenues was drastically better than July's numbers, which showed a 1.5% jump.

Macau has been having a year of slower growth, following 2011's 42% jump in revenues, due mainly to a slowing Chinese economy.
