Cyprus Wrongly Arrests Poker Players

A series of false arrests by law enforcement personnel on the island of Cyprus resulted in 60 poker players who were training for an international poker event.

The players, who were members of the Cyprus Poker Association who were not playing with real money. The group was holding a play money tournament to select the top 10 players to represent the country at the Nations Cup, which is being held in London in September.

The sting was reportedly set up weeks in advance, with various authorities in the Cyprus government, even after a member of the CPA was told by a law enforcement authority that the games were perfectly legal.

Further investigations are being held into how the raids was approved.
