The dispute between a British grandmother who apparently won a bet that she placed on her grandson in the London Olympics and UK betting site Betfred came to an end today as the betting firm agreed to pay the bet.
The issue arose when Linda Aldred placed a £5 bet on her grandson Sam Oldham to win an Olympic medal during the Games. When his gymnastics team took bronze, Aldred thought she won £1,000 (the odds were 200:1 when she placed the bet) but was informed that Betfred would not pay out the bet due to the win taking place as a team event and not an individual event.
After a firestorm of bad publicity Betfred eventually agreed to honor the bet, saying that it was "the right thing to do".

This is good to hear. That woman deserved the winnings.
