Online search giant Google has placed online gambling businesses on its unacceptable business exclusion list for its UK Google Affiliate Network, which was launched earlier in the week.
The exclusion of online gambling businesses is perplexing, as Google's UK division started allowing the industry to advertise on its website in 2008.
Google has not explained why certain categories of businesses are on the exclusion list. Online gambling has joined tobacco sites, weapon sites, and adult websites as types of businesses barred from using the Affiliate Network.
The Google Affiliate Network is a marketing platform for companies to generate web traffic through affiliate websites, which only pay for traffic that produces sales through the network.
