Part time bookie Goh Weng Soon was sentenced to one year in prison and $390,000 in fines as he plead guilty to 11 counts of illegal sports betting.

Soon, a vegetable grocer, was caught with a week's worth of wagers worth $146,000 and stood accused of handling more than $288,000 in illegal soccer bets for a Malaysia based internet gambling operator.

Soon earned $80,000 in commissions during his part time bookie gig which is not enough to pay the $390,000 fine levied against him. The inability to pay the fine may result in more prison time for the grocer.
