The Vietnamese government is set to legalize and regulate sportsbetting, following in the shoes of several other Asian countries who have successfully integrated wagering of sports.
The Vietnamese Finance Ministry announced this week that it will move to legalize the hobby, albeit under strict regulation. The Ministry says that by legalizing betting on sports matches would limit the harm that illegal betting operations create.
Over the weekend Finance Minister Vuong Dinh Hue and a delegation of government officials traveled to Singapore where it met with members of the state's gaming board and studied the handling of sportsbetting by the government. Following the visit, Hue announced that his department would move to legalize sports betting in his country.
Currently only foreign visitors are allowed to gamble in Vietnam's casinos.
