A bill that would make Utah opt out of any federal online gambling legislation made considerable progress as it passed through the State Senate by a vote of 25-2.

The legislation, House Bill 108 would make Utah opt out of the federal legislation U.S. HR 1174 which is currently in Congress. Gambling of all sorts is illegal in Utah.

One of the bill's co-sponsors, Senator John Valentine commented on the legislation saying “Were we to recognize gambling or permit HR 1174 to come in, the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act could easily be used as a method to give casino gambling for Utah.”
