The United States Department of Homeland Security has seized the .com domain of gambling licensing brand Bodog, even though the company left for a .eu domain some time ago.
The seizure was kept a secret through a sealed warrant under 18 USC § 981 and 1955(d) by the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
The impact of the seizure on Bodog will likely be negligible as the company abandoned the domain a while back. The company now licenses the Bodog brand to casino operators outside of the United States.
Bodog founder Calvin Ayre was asked about the seizure through his website calvinayre.com and issued this comment: “Not sure what to say. BodogBrand.com is a brand-licensing organisation based outside the US. The brand left the market last year and the domain in question has been dormant globally for longer than that. We are only currently doing brand licensing deals outside the US so this domain had no place in any of our current plans.”
