Online poker giant PokerStars experienced a massive server crash on Tuesday, leaving more than 70,000 players disconnected from the site.
During the server failure many players were shut out of games and were unable to access account information including hand histories. PokerStars' new iPad app was also unavailable during the outage.
Acting quickly to reassure players that they were in control of the situation, PokerStars sent an email to the affected players which stated that the site was "....currently experiencing some problems with players logging in, creating accounts, and accessing the cashier, among others." The email went on to say that the company is looking into the issue and will refund player accounts that were "materially" prejudiced by the failure.
Server issues are occasionally experienced at online gambling websites, and usually a company will include language regarding technical failures in the terms and conditions. Players who experienced the outage are being asked to contact Pokerstars at [email protected]
