Malaysian Police Busy With Gambling Busts

Malaysian law enforcement authorities have been busy early this year in breaking up illegal gambling rings, with a total of 167 raids being recorded thus far.

Police Spokesman Datuk Hamza Taib told media outlets in Malaysia that 52 of the raids were against online gambling enterprises, and that 92 people were detained. Among the illegal gambling rings: cockfighting, 4-D lotteries, and cyber gambling.

Hamza also said that 438 raids were conducted last year related to online gambling, compared to 231 in 2010. 281 people were detained in those raids, compared with 385 the previous year.
