Online gambling giant Betfair plc released its iPad app to the Apple Store last week, offering several enhancements that are specifically tailored to the tablet.
Some of the features included with the free to download app are:
An intuitive landing page, with easy access tot he most popular events along with live scores.
Trader focused betting experience, with betting functionality mirroring that available on the fixed website.
Seamless access to Betfair's betting.betfair site, which includes insight and analysis from Betfair's content team and associates.
Ability to deposit and withdraw from anywhere in the app.
The app covers a large market segment for Betfair, as 10% of the company's wagers now come from mobile phones and devices. Last year more than £800 million in bets had been made through mobile devices in just six months time. That number is expected to grow, and tablets will likely play a big role in that expansion.
Commenting on the release, Betfair's Raj Vemulapalli said “This App is a game-changer for our customers, offering them a betting experience that replicates the fixed web, whilst making use of the unique features available on iPad. Mobile is the coming force in the betting industry, and the shift from online to mobile is in many ways more exciting than the shift from offline to online.”
Betfair Chief Technology Officer Tony McAlister said of the app, which was developed in San Francisco: "I hope this is the first of many US developed products which will extend our lead in the online betting space."
