The Australian Joint Select Committee on Gambling Reform has submitted a report which calls for a ban on promoting live odds at sporting events and during broadcasts, and more research.

The committee, which is chaired by independent MP Andrew Wilkie stated in its report that sportsbetting in Australia is currently worth roughly A$790 million annually.

Among the other recommendations from the committee: Gambling ads should be banned during times when children are apt to be watching, tighter controls on credit betting, that a research institute on gambling be established, and that a campaign to educate people on the risk of online gambling be put into place.
