Online poker giant PokerStars has announced that it is revamping its VIP reward program effective on January 1st, 2012.
The new VIP program will switch to a weighted contribution system in which VIP Player Points (VPPs) are awarded. Under the new system players with lower VIP statuses will get more points, while players with higher VIP status get less.
The changes are being put into place to make the VIP benefits more balanced to all players. The new system has received criticism from players claiming that it penalizes loyal players and will make it more difficult to achieve SuperNova+ VIP ratings.
PokerStars says that Sit & Go tables and Multi-Table Tournaments will not be affected by the new change.
