The Chairman of the US based gambling group Las Vegas Sands has split from other members of the American Gaming Association in voicing his opposition to legalizing online gambling in the United States.
Sheldon Adelson, who is the current Chairman for Las Vegas Sands said he opposes online gambling legalization on the following grounds:
He is morally opposed to online gambling
He is not confident in technology that would keep minors from gambling
That legislation is an unnecessary distraction for the 2012 election campaign.
The story was broken by Jon Ralston in the Las Vegas Sun, who later posted to gambling message board 2plus2 where he said, "AGA boss Fahrenkopf confirms my story on Adelson vis a vis web poker, says (Adelson) visited him December 5 to tell him of opposition. AGA still backs (legalisation of online poker)."
