New Jersey Residents Want Sportsbetting, Poll Shows

This story was published more than 12 years ago.

A new study by Rugters-Eagleton Poll shows that 58% of New Jersey voters want to legalize sportsbetting in casinos and racetracks.

The study consisted of 903 likely voters. Republicans support the issue with the highest approval at 64%, with Democrats approving at 58%, and 54% of Independents wanting legal sportsbetting.

The Rutgers-Eagleton study observes that: "If the election were today, an amendment to the New Jersey Constitution allowing gambling on sporting events in Atlantic City casinos and at race tracks throughout the state would easily win approval."

"According to a new Rutgers-Eagleton Poll, betting on sports events, which will be on the November 8 general election ballot, is supported by 58% of likely voters, while only 31% oppose."
