888 Warns Of Potential Cash Swap Scam

This story was published more than 12 years ago.

Online gaming site 888 has warned its customers of a potential scam that is taking place on its popular poker forums.

A statement released by the company says: "Certain individuals are approaching poker members via forums, and requesting a swap of funds via money transfer. The individual may offer a high amount of funds into your poker account, in return for a lesser amount to their e-payment account, or alternative poker brand account. Participating in such offers could lead to your account being associated with fraudulent funds."

Scams like this are not uncommon across the internet, with millions of dollars being lost by victims in the past. Usually a victim is asked to transfer money and is paid a higher amount, being told to keep the over and above balance requested as a thank you for helping the scammer out. Ultimately, the funds are transferred to the scammer, and the victim ends up having to pay the money back once it is discovered the scammer used a fraudulent means of funding the initial amount.

I can not believe that anyone still trusts all these "deals"! They're outdated, everyone knows now, even in my country (that is a bit lately developed) that individual deals just like the one discussed above is a big scam and nothing more....
