This week online poker took a positive step as the state of Nevada moved forward with necessary steps to see a poker law passed by the state legislature take effect.

The law, which was passed pending legalization by federal lawmakers required the Nevada Gaming Control Board to draw up regulations that the state had to implement. This week those regulators shared their proposals on their website.

The regulations the board drew up include customer protection, record keeping and auditing rules, applicant vetting requirements, and technology aspects. Mark Lipparelli, Chairman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board commented on online poker to the Las Vegas Review Jornal, saying "The technology supporting it, while not perfect, has improved dramatically since its introduction. Similar to our land-based requirements, Nevada will establish high standards giving players as much confidence as possible in the entities and technologies that might eventually gain approval."

The next step in legalizing online poker in Nevada will be to have the regulations go through a public consultation workshop which is set to begin near the end of September. The regulations are able to be amended if need be before the hearings.
