MGM Resorts International has field a lawsuit in a Las Vegas Federal Court alleging that WorldPokerRewards.com Co. Inc. and John George has committed trademark infringement on its Gold Strike Casino brands.
The suit alleges that the online poker subscription club's websites GoldStrikePoker.com and GoldStrikePoker.net are in violation of infringement laws in addition to carrying the Gold Strike name on various social networking sites. Reportedly MGM warned George and WorldPokerRewards about the violations through their attorneys in July with a cease and desist order. MGM also requested that the domains be transferred to the Nevada based gambling giant.
According to the suit, George did agree to rename his websites, but held onto the domain names in an attempt to get MGM Resorts to purchase the sites from him.
World Poker Rewards Club.com is currently operating its poker operations with the belief that online poker is legal in the United States if a company adheres to a subscription based model for operations.
