Russian President Cracks Down On Gambling

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev this week took a tough stance on online gambling this week as he signed a decree criminalizing the act.

The new law is aimed at defining the types of gambling that are unlawful and takes direct aim at mobile and online gambling. The added articles to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and the Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation state that mobile and online gambling are criminal offences.

The new additions say that unlawful organization and operation of gambling outside of the the already approved gambling regions and through the use of telecommunications networks, such as through mobile devices or through the internet is subject to criminal and administrative liability.
