On Monday, the Italian online gambling market grew in size as real money AAMS-certified casino and poker games were introduced to the market.

According to an Italian media report, the launch of the games is currently underway, and will see the roll out completed by the end of the week. Online casino operator The Ongame Network was one of the first online casinos to jump into the market, which in turn will allow bwin and GDpoker to start offering online poker to players in Italy.

Ongame Network Managing Director David Pittel said, “We are proud to be among the first operators to launch cash game poker on the Italian market. Cash games are not only highly popular, cash games are also well-suited to the mobile platform which requires that the user has control when he starts and ends playing. We are also now working to implement cash games for a couple of our other B2C operators that we expect to launch shortly.”

It has been reported that the introduction of the online gambling games will generate about $15 billion annually between 2010-2013.

Paolo Di Feo, Southern Regional Director at bwin.party was thrilled about the opening of the Italian market, saying 'We are excited about the launch of cash game poker in Italy. Cash game poker requires less effort from the player and is particularly appealing if you just want to play for a limited period of time. We are delighted that Ongame is one of the first-movers into this exciting new segment of the Italian market.”
