The proposal to legalise online poker in the state of Iowa, which was stripped out of more general gambling legislation earlier this month has made some progress in the state Senate.

Some legislators lacked sufficient knowledge to pass the bill in the Ways and Means Committee, resulting in it being separated from other gambling provisions and sent to the Senate with a recommendation that the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission conduct a study and report back by December 1st 2011 before any further action was taken.

The Senate has approved this course in a 38 to 12 vote, and the bill now moves to the House for its approval.
