The Spanish Association of Internet Bettors, Asociación Española de Apostadores por Internetedit (AEDAPI) released its estimated online gaming industry results this week.

According to the report, the Spanish market shows a steady upward trend in growth and profit derived from economic estimates, submitted to AEDAPI by members in the online gaming industry which the Association compiles and releases on an annual basis.

The Association reported an estimated profit of €315 million in 2010, surpassing 2009 by 19% and strengthening the progressive growth in the industry by 20% per annum. These figures are further broken down into the following sectors within the industry:

  • Online sports betting showed a 21% increase over 2009.
  • Online poker showed a growth of 26% over 2009 and a profit of €85 million.
  • Other forms including online gaming, gambling, casino and skill games have seen profits in excess of €120 million representing an increase of 14% over 2009.

In terms of volume of users AEDAPI estimates that the sector has over 370,000 active users in Spain which equates to a 33% increase over 2009. Most of these users reportedly hail from Madrid, Catalonia, Andalucía, Valencia and Castilla y León.

"We are proud to show results as strong as those cited here. These figures show a steady growth of 20% in industry profits which shows we are in a sector with future projection.

“The Bill will determine whether these results remain on the up or, conversely, will fall due to lack of market competitiveness. AEDAPI will continue working with government by providing information to get a regulatory win-win," said Sacha Michaud, President, AEDAPI.
