S490, a bill seeking to legalise intrastate online gambling in the state of New Jersey, may have been temporarily delayed by small tax tweaks, but author Senator Ray Lesniak is determined to maintain its fast progress through the political system.
Because the financial tweaks involved tax changes, the bill, which has enjoyed strong support through committees and the Senate, has to go through the formality of the Assembly Budget Committee before it can be presented to the Assembly for debate and vote.
On Wednesday Senator Lesniak revealed that he is pushing for the Budget Committee hearing to be held before January 6, clearing the way for the bill to be voted through the Assembly and presented to the state governor for signature and passage into state law.
