The announcement of a new poker challenge - this time live - by online and live poker ace Tom "durrr" Dwan has followers speculating that it may be an admission that the 50,000 hands in his original Challenge is too protracted a contest.
With the original, million dollar plus, 50,000 hand Challenge still barely at the halfway point against first challenger Patrik Antonius after several on-and-off months, Dwan has now thrown down another gauntlet.
It could be confusing, titled as it is "Durrr Million Dollar Challenge", but its parameters appear more practical: 500 hands in a live heads up match; a $500,000 buy-in; blinds at $500/$1000 and no player can leave the contest until the 500 hands are reached or a player has busted out.
Dwan already has his first opponent - Sammy "Any Two" George - who is preparing to clash with the American ace in London next (September) month. The challenger is a London businessman with a reputation of playing any two cards at any time as a familiar face on UK televised poker shows such as The Big Game and Poker Million.
"Any Two" has already started with the trash-talk, describing Dwan as "nothing special."
Matchroom Sport is involved in putting the London confrontation together, and full information will be carried on its website, where "Any Two" says: "I'm buzzing - what could be sweeter than playing in the world's biggest heads-up match against Durrrr? I'm stepping up to the plate and putting my money where my mouth is and it will be an honour to represent my country against the best the US has to offer."
Eddie Hearn, Managing Director of Matchroom Sport says: "I am delighted to welcome Sammy to the Durrrr Million Dollar Challenge. Sammy is one of the few players in the game who is willing to walk the walk rather than just talk the talk and although many will see him as the underdog in this match, he has plenty of heart and should not be underestimated."
