The nine-country Euro Millions Lottery jackpot, valued at €126,231,764, has been won, turning an as yet unidentified Spanish player into a member of the mega-rich set overnight.

The jackpot is a new record, well in excess of the previous record won by an Irish woman, Dolores McNamara in July 2005, and valued at €115,436,126.

The as yet unnamed player was the only one among millions of players to tick the five correct numbers (4, 23, 24, 29, 31) and two stars (8, 9) and win the huge jackpot draw, which took place in Paris.

The UK press reported that Friday's winner beat odds of 76 million to one to win the equivalent of four years' salary of David Beckham, the world's best paid footballer.
