Official numbers for the first three Day One rounds in the Main Event of the 39th World Series of Poker show a decline in entries from last year, with Day 1A recording 1297 players; Day 1B 1158 players and Day 1C just completed 1928 - a total so far (Day 1D is still to be played) of 4383 entrants.
Starters in Day 1C included Internet player Isaac Haxton, Mike Wattel, Shawn Buchanan, James Akenhead, Matt McCullough, Jameson Painter, and Dmitri Nobles. T.J. Cloutier, Bill Chen, Marco Traniello, Gary Benson, Ryan Hughes, David Plastik, Scott Freeman, Adam Levy, Keith Sexton, Mel Judah, Minh Nguyen, Liz Lieu, Justin Bonomo, Daniel Alaei, David Chicotsky, Scott Seiver, Matt Graham, Jerrod Ankenman, Larry Flynt, William Rockwell, Evelyn Ng, Sorel Mizzi, Chris Grigorian, Alan Sass, Jesper Hoog, Jordan Rich, Terrence Chan, Matt Parvis, David Sklansky, Arnold Spee, Ayaz Mahmood, Jason Somerville, J.C. Tran, Isabelle Mercier.
Aming the previous WSOP bracelet holders taking their seats were Jeff Lisandro, David Singer, Mike Sexton, John Juanda, Burt Boutin and Michael Gracz.
Unfortunately, the day saw the end of 2008 Main Event ambitions for former Main Event champ Huckleberry Seed, Mike Sexton, Gavin Griffin, Michael Gracz, Internet whiz Justin Bonomo, J.C. Tran, T.J. Cloutier, Max Pescatori, Larry Flynt, Tony G and Marcel Luske, among many others.
Leaders of Day 1C action included Henning Granstad, Curt Kohlberg and Howard Berchowitz. A number of high profile professional players have yet to make their appearance, so Day 1D - the last of the Day one "heats" - may well feature the largest starting field of all four days.
