The Island Stud Poker game that is available at casinos running WGS Technology software is simply Caribbean Stud Poker by another name. The game puts you up against the dealer one-on-one to see if you have what it takes to win the considerable progressive jackpot prize.

The poker aspect of the game is very simple. Start by making your ante. You and the dealer are then each dealt five card hands. One of the dealer’s cards is dealt face-up, while your cards remain hidden. At this point, you must decide whether you will fold or raise and stay in the game. If you fold; you lose your ante. If you raise; your ante is doubled. Your hand is then put up against the dealer’s to see who has the stronger. If the dealer does not ‘qualify’ by having an Ace-King or better, you win twice your ante regardless of your hand. If he does ‘qualify’ and you win, you are paid according to the winnings table.

In order to be eligible for the progressive jackpot, you must make a separate $1 wager in the special progressive bet spot when making your ante. This part is easy; the trickier part here is to come up with the royal flush hand that’s needed to win the prize listed in the upper part of the screen. Note that making the $1 side bet makes you eligible for other prizes – a full list of the payouts is available in the upper left-hand corner of the game page.
