Smashing pumpkins can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. It can be a band, an act of vandalism, and apparently a part of the Mexican holiday Day of the Dead. This is picked up by Yggdrasil Gaming in their Pumpkin Smash slot. The game brings a mixture of Halloween and Day of the Dead, getting us a unique looking game that seems like it could be great, but sadly fails due to a lack of bonus features.
Pumpkin Smash is a 5 reel, 20 payline video slot that takes place on the Day of the Dead Holiday which is also Halloween to us that don't celebrate. The game's imagery is actually very good, melding both skulls and classic symbols. These include blue spades, green clubs, pink spades, red hearts, blue skull, green skull, pink female skull, and red female skull. There is also a pumpkin wearing a sombrero and a wild symbol, which round things out.
The game's features are where Pumpkin Smash suffers though, as things are awfully neutered here. You'll find the above mentioned wilds, scatters, free spins, and a pick'em bonus. Compared to some of the more recent Yggdrasil games, this is tame and its a disappointment to see not much left here. Still, the game has the standard return to player (RTP) percentage of 96.2%, which is just a hair over the standard 96.1% we see from other Yggdrasil slots.
My overall experience with Pumpkin Smash was a bit disappointing. I really wish things were deeper here, as it would have added longevity to the game. Still, this game does look sharp, and you can also play it on your mobile device, which looks equally sharp. So if you're in the mood for a dark, yet cheerful game, then Pumpkin Smash is a slot you should consider.
