Playtech has once again jumped into the Chinese slot market with their Si Xiang slot. The game has a classic Chinese theme to it, bringing a relaxing and mythical game to your screen that is pretty basic.
Si Xiang is a 5 reel, 9 payline slot that looks a lot like the other Asian styled slots that we've all seen in the past. The game's symbols include standard card symbols that are given a Chinese character look. These include 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, and Ace, and there are also a slew of mythical beasts such as a turtle snake, a phoenix, white tiger, and green dragon. Feature wise, the game has scatter symbols, free spins, and wild symbols. The game also pays out from right to left instead of left to right.
The overall presentation is well-done but is very simple, and could be mistaken for being dated. Music included also has a relaxing aspect to it, which depending on your mood you may enjoy or find completely annoying.
I played this game for a bit, and found that it was decent for a short time, but it quickly wore on me and I was ready to move on shortly thereafter. With that being said, there is a growing interest in online betting in the Asian region, and I can't help but think that this game is being tailored toward those punters.
I bet that there's a lot of people who'll end up spinning the reels here and loving it, but for me, I 'd prefer to see a lot more innovation and variation of theme in the games I play. Playtech certainly could stand to do that more, and moving forward I hope they move away from this style of game in favor of something more updated and entertaining.
