There are thousands of different slot games available to play on the internet, but many of these games are so similar to each other that they may as well be the same game. Once in a while though, players are given something a bit different that brings extra levels of depth or features we haven't seen before. Internet betting software developer Play'n Go has taken this route with Gemix, which is a combination of a slot machine and a reactor style game.
Gemix is a game that features a 7 by 7 grid and allows punters to place bets from 50c up to $100 per spin. The game features a gem theme, which includes stars, hearts, moons, flowers, pentagons, squares, triangles, and rectangles that have been designed to look shiny. The game pays out when at least five symbols are touching each other, horizontally, vertically or clumped together - it doesn't have to be in a single straight line. The symbols are then erased by the game and others cascade down into their spots, giving you the chance to win again. This repeats for as long as there are at least 5 symbols touching.
Gemix also attempts to mix in other gameplay elements, including patterns that award a bonus and send you to a new level when you complete them, a charge ball that can transform, explode, turn other symbols wild, a chain transforming feature, and a line transforming feature. There are also various wild symbols that change with each world that you are on.
Playing Gemix, I was instantly reminded of the Betsoft game Sugar Pop, which feels similar to this game but features better graphics. I enjoyed playing Gemix but thought that the game eventually got a bit stale as I continued to move through it. I feel that Gemix is a game that is good for those looking for something a bit different and want to play for short bursts of time.
