King Kong reigns supreme as one of the biggest classic Hollywood films of all-time, with the giant ape holding onto the Empire State Building being one of the most iconic scenes ever. NextGen Gaming's version of King Kong is actually a graphically and mobile enhanced re-release of a slot that the company produced for Cryptologic the best part of a decade ago now.
King Kong is a 5 reel, 25 payline video slot that is based on the original 1933 film franchise, taking players to Skull Island and back to New York City where the big ape will break free. The game's symbols include movie tickets, handcuffs, a skull, a film camera, a giant spider, a ship, a fighter plane, a T-Rex, the male hero, and the beautiful blonde. There is also a King Kong title symbol that serves as a scatter, and the ape himself which is the game's wild.
Feature wise, King Kong features scatter symbols, wild symbols, and free spins. The free spin feature is set off when three or more scatters are found on the reels. That gives you a King Kong Smash feature where you pick planes to smash. The total number of free spins, which can go as high as 150, is determined through this sequence and wins from the free spins are all doubled.
Having played this game many years ago at Intercasino and now this re-release, unlike the films I don't think this game stacks up well compared to the Playtech slot Kong the 8th Wonder, which is based on the 2005 Peter Jackson remake film. Playtech's game has a more modern presentation and loads more features. That being said, NextGen's King Kong slot is still a good time, with the features popping up on a frequent basis. If you're a fan of the original film, then you will want to give this a go. If you aren't particularly fussed then I'd suggest possibly trying the Playtech version first.
