Where you from?

20 replies • Last post

Hi everybody! I'm baaack! Got busy with jobs, moving, new puppies(!), etc. but now I plan to get back into 'puter stuff, and I love this site!!!

For my suggestion, I think it would be really helpful if there could be an indication of where everybody lives in the little bio that appears with the id at each post.

Being from USA and having to deal with the idiots in our system, sometimes I'll read something here in the forum and start to get excited just to realize that whoever contributed this post isn't on as tight a leash as we are, and whatever they're talking about probably isn't available to me.

Also, inquiring minds want to know, and I'm just naturally the nosy sort. I enjoy picturing whoever is talking where they might be. If they're from Europe, are they overlooking the Mediterranean, or the Swiss Alps?

Great idea, ijustwantaspin! At the very least, sharing here in a thread is a great start. We do have a thread in the General Chat "sharing photos from around the world," and that is kind of fun, too. I enjoy getting to know people from all over the world and being able to learn more about their areas, ask them questions, etc. That is just one more great thing about this site.

I live in Minnesota, USA. There are a few others here from the Midwest. Where are you?

Welcome back! Smile

I live on beautiful Greers Ferry Lake in north central Arkansas. Hope. I thought you lived in Minnesota--Land of a Thousand Lakes? But I only knew that because I've followed so many of your posts. What is it they call you? lol All with love, I promise you.

I like to think we're getting to know people from all over, I love the pics, and I think it would be really nice to put a place with each post as it comes up, and remember not all gambling opportunities are equal, a lot of people have it a lot better than we do. Thanks for the comment.

Yes, I do realize we are missing out. It is fun to hear about all the casinos out there, I agree.

I know on one site I am on, there is a symbol under the name, then when you click on it you can see where the person is on the map. I like that feature, because it can be turned on and off, since some people do not wish to share their location.

Your home sounds beautiful. I love the lakes (how could I not, growing up in the "Land of Ten Thousand Lakes?), and I always imagined I would live on one when I grew up. I grew up in Northern Minnesota, where lakes abound, but now I am closer to the twin cities (Minneapolis and St. Paul to those who do are not familiar with the U.S states). We lived at my grandma's cabin, the lakes, the campgrounds, and in my dad's boat. Such fond summer memories. Smile

I have always heard Arkansas is a beautiful state, and I would love to visit someday.

You must be referring to my "other name," Blabberfingers, maybe? lol Yes, I do type fast, and I do enjoy the interaction here. Stick around, and you can catch up in no time at all. Wink Smile

Thanks for the suggestion Ijustwantaspin. I like it.

hope - re clicking on symbols and seeing where someone is from on a map. I guess it could be seen as invasive of people's privacy, unless we make it really generic like their country only, or make it optional.

Another couple of alternatives:

- A little flag next to your user name in the forums so people can tell which country you're from. Pros: it works instantly for everyone; Cons: not many I can think of, maybe someone doesn't want their country revealed, or maybe you want more specific info. I like this one personally Wink

- A text box in your profile that you can fill in to tell people where you are from and we display it under your name in the forum. Pros: people can be as general or specific as they like. Cons: a lot of people won't bother to fill it out.

We could even do both.

What do you think?

Adding flags proved to be very easy so they are done already. Let me know if you think we could do more like the location box that you fill in yourself.

The thing about the symbol is the user had the option to turn it off or keep it on, so they could set up their own privacy settings (on the site I was talking about). I always had mine turned off, but at least there was the option if someone chose to share.

I don't mind the flag idea at all: looks kind of cool! That was quick. Smile

Flags! That's almost perfect! I only say almost perfect because (my ignorance is showing here) I can only recognize 10 or 15!
Oh, well, this can be another learning experience. I'm always looking for those!! So I guess it's perfect after all.
One of these days I'll learn to use those smiley thingies. for now...lol

If you get confused as to what flag a country is, just hover your mouse pointer over it and it will tell you. Smile

Ok this has snowballed a bit and we have taken the opportunity to revamp the user profiles on the site and make them far more interesting and useful. You can see yours by clicking your name in the bar at the top of the page and clicking Account Settings. If you fill in your location it will show up under your picture in the forums like mine does now. The rest of the profile info won't show up in the forum but whatever you fill in will be visible to other members of the site if they visit your profile page.

You can fill in as much or as little as you want, its all totally optional. However they will only become interesting if we all go and fill at least some of them in. So I've made a start on mine. You can see my profile (and anyone else's) by clicking their name in the forums.

If you have any more suggestions or can think of anything else you would like us to add to the profiles, just let me know.
