Big cleanup of our free games library

4 replies • Last post

Hi all, I just wanted to let everyone know that we recently decided to trim our free games library for a few reasons, mainly because some of the games were getting very old and are rarely played any more. In addition the Flash plugin that many of the older games relied on is no longer supported in most new browsers and mobile devices, and it is regularly prone to security breaches. It is no longer being developed by Adobe and is scheduled to be permanently terminated next year.

While that means we cut back a significant chunk of the free games on our site, every game should now work ok on all browsers and mobile devices. We can finally say our site is completely free of Flash and 100% mobile compatible. This is something we have been working towards achieving for a few years as we have watched the slow decline in relevance and popularity of Flash.

Mobile users should also notice that we have added a full screen enlargement button for those games that support it on mobile phones and tablets (first screenshot below). Just tap that button above the game and the game will fill the screen on your phone while you play, and in most cases you can rotate your phone to get the game looking just right (second screenshot).

I often play in the games library. Since the exclusion of Aussies its still nice to be able play the games we used to be able to play even if it is in "fun mode".
They make the "withdrawals" a bit easier to take 😢

That's pretty dope, Ed. Cool to see that the games should "just work" on most devices now.

Think you've done a nice cleaning job there Ed!

The dinosaurs extinction might took just a few seconds but obviously it took ages for you to get rid of flash.. 😉 just kidding mate.

The browser I'm using do not support flash player for a while now so I've had a few struggles with some of the games before but not only because of that of course (region rules also) but in my opinion you don't have to have tons on games anyway...just the better ones.

Hopefully 100% mobile compatible doesn't mean 100% dinosaur on a desktop incompatible 🙂 but from what I'm seeing that;s not the case at CL.

I agree re the desktop games. I don't like playing games designed for a mobile on a big screen computer. We have the ability to load a desktop version for people on a computer and a different mobile version for people on their phones. So we can do that as long as the game suppliers offer different versions. Not all do so sadly as some seem to have gone all in on mobile optimisation, but some of the better ones like Net Ent and Play'n Go do have both versions.
