Break out your VPN... CL is banned in Russia!

9 replies • Last post

Swearing, being an emo, synthetic lingerie, Garry Kasparov's website, European bacon, Ukrainian cheese, sex education, and yoga. What do all these things have in common? That's right, they are all banned in Russia. And now I have the privilege of announcing that your favourite casino review and information site will soon be added to that illustrious list.

A couple of days ago our web host received this message, apparently from a Russian government department, notifying us that they are going to start blocking people from Russia from accessing our website.

It is notice of making an entry into the "Unified register of domain names, Internet web-site page links and network addresses enabling to identify the Internet web-sites containing the information prohibited for public distribution in the Russian Federation" the Internet web-site page (s) link (s): https://www.casinolistings.com/ .
In case the hosting provider and (or) the Internet web-site owner fail to take these measures, the network address enabling to identify Internet web-sites containing the information prohibited for distribution in the Russian Federation will be decided to be entered into the Register and access will be limited.
The information about entering the domain names, Internet web-site page links and network addresses into the Register shall be available on a 24-hour basis at the following Internet address: http://eais.rkn.gov.ru/en/ .

Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Telecom, Information Technologies and Mass Communications (ROSKOMNADZOR).

Should we consider It an honour that a site with absolutely no Russian language content has gained the attention of one of the world's premier censorship departments? It kind of feels like we're getting an award! 😂

Interested in seeing how may people this would actually affect, I looked at our stats and found some interesting numbers. During the last 30 days, 9.5% of all attempts to hit our server originates from the Russian Federation. This includes real visitors, bots, crawlers, scrapers, automated hack attempts and everything else. However only 0.87% of real live human visitors originate from there. So it seems to me that they might be just doing us a favour in the end.

I'm sure that anyone in Russia who wants to visit us badly enough probably knows what to do but just in case you don't, here is a three letter clue: V P N

Wow, this looks so silly to me! I mean, there are so many gaming sites that originate from Russia or has russian language so it makes no sense to me to block a gaming forum!

It is strange, especially seeing as though nothing on the site is in Russian. I guess browsers can do a poor machine translation these days but still, it is odd.

It was nice and polite of them to let us know though!

But the reason it surprises me is the fact that on this page there are nothing bad about russians, nothing offensive and as far as I know gambling isn't illegal there. But maybe I just don't know that well. Still I would take it as a compliment! 😂

In Soviet Russia, casino lists YOU!

Alright, I have no good Yakov Smirnoff jokes, but I had to try! Good to see CL is getting on the naughty side of governments everywhere. First North Korea, then Russia, next... Syria?

Actually I think we were blocked in Italy about 5 years ago too, along with just about every site on the internet with the word casino in its domain name.

Don't go giving anyone any ideas! 😉

Speaking of ideas... maybe we should make a sticker or logo that says "banned in Russia" and put it in the corner of every page. I reckon that would actually appeal to a lot of people! 😂

Congratulation 🍺

Anyway, here is a google hack I use on casinos when working as affiliate from Latvia: [email protected] By typing it in the search field in google.com you should for the most be able to find a link on first page in google that gives you access to whatever site you want to visit, eighter from Russia, Latvia or wherever you are.

Oh believe me, I am not gonna give anyone ideas! 😂 However if I was from Russia, I would simply use a VPN as I do with casinos that my country has blocked. 🙂 But speaking of the logo- yeah, that would be fun! 😂

Don't know what the problem of Russian government is but they like to ban...pretty much everything!

Here is the other way round.. they are too lazy to ban anybody.. if that doesn't make them any money of course 😉
