How to check is the slot legitimate or pirate version?

2 replies • Last post

Hey fellow colleagues,

I'd like to check couple of slots from Pragmatic, Synot and Playtech on our domestic online casino and at Stake, maybe even another one, foreign casino but regulated outside of Curacao and see are they all using originals.

What exactly should I look for here? What pirated version of a slot woulf show when I check it with inspect element? Or is there a site that does this on auto?

The easiest way is usually to check the domain name that the game is being served from using your browser's web inspector. This is because a legitimate game will only ever be served from a domain owned by the developer of the game. You need to check the domain name while the game loads, then look it up in the WHOIS system and see if it is owned by the developer of the game. The problem is that many of the developers use domain names that are non-obvious, or even privacy protection, so it can be hard to work out if it is legitimate or not.

Off the top of my head I know that Net Ent games were served off a subdomain of casinomodule.com - e.g. betsson.casinomodule.com. But if you WHOIS that domain now it is totally privacy protected with no way to know whether it is still associated with Net Ent after they have been sold recently.

One thing to be aware of is that as sites like ours began exposing the pirate suppliers, they started to get smarter about the way they deployed their games. For example they would try to register a domain name that is one letter or digit different from a legitimate domain. Or they would offer genuine versions of the games in free play mode and only serve the pirated ones in real money mode. So you must always check in real money mode to be sure.

Let me know if you want help to check a specific game.
