Do you celebrate holidays?

7 replies • Last post

At CL, there's a diverse group of users that are spread all around the globe. I know a lot of the world celebrates big holidays like Christmas or Easter, but what about smaller ones? We're coming up on St. Patrick's Day this week, and in the States, it's a big excuse for people to go out and get drunk. Do you celebrate holidays like St. Patrick's Day? What holidays do you folks get down with, and what do you do?

I'm curious!

St Patrick's Day is one of those things here that if you're not an Irish expat, you might not even know it is on. I only knew today because I heard someone mention it on the radio when I was in the car. I remember years ago going to work in the city on St Patrick's Day and seeing Irish backpackers absolutely smashed and barely able to stand up already at 8:30am in the morning.

We're pretty much only into the big ones: Christmas, Easter, New Year, Australia Day. Not that I really celebrate anything much but I'm just happy to have a few days off. I think I'm safe in saying that most people would agree that the public holiday is way more important than the reason for the day. 😂

Agreed with that, Ed! I love me a good day off. Memorial Day and Labor Day specifically come to mind, as they're set for Mondays and give us long weekends. 🙂

I only really celebrate Christmas/ New Years but haven't really done it the last two years or so. Easter doesn't mean anything to me, aside from eating chocolates (but I'm vegan so I'm not buying the milk chocolate eggs etc) haha. 🙂 St. Patrick's has never been a thing I celebrate, neither is Valentine's. I do like Halloween because I'm a fan of fall season.

There's the typical Christmas and New Year, Valentines etc. The only one that I used to like as a child is Midsummer- it's usually 23rd/ 24th June and is pretty much celebration of summer, drinking beer and eating home made cheese!

Now that's a holiday I can get behind! Kind of like our Fourth of July here.
