Psychological part of gambling - how big it is?

16 replies • Last post

Hey, I want to start a discussion about smth that many people don't believe in - the psychological when gambling.

I will tell u a story I will always remember - I use to work at land-based casinos in my country for like 10 years and I have been through the lowest to almost highest possible position there, so, I mean saw almost all possible styles of gambling people.

I can conclude 1 thing (on the side that the casino always wins) - we all should play for fun!!!

The Story - we had players, a couple around 60 years old, very polite, good-looking for the years, I mean intelligent people. So, they were coming like 1-2 times per month and always playing poker (Caribbean, Russian or texas ultimate) and to be honest (I haven't counted how many times they were winning) I believe they were winning like 7-8-9 times from 10 (my experience shows that is opposite). So, once I was a dealer and asked him: "hey, I believe that u are winning more than usual, I mean how the f*uck u are doing it so?" He smiled and said: "hey, I am not here to win money, I am here to relax from my everyday"

WOW, this guy do not think about the money when was coming to the casino...

Frankly, I was trying this strategy many times but looks like it is not enough just to think about it but to accept such an attitude at the casino at 110%

Guys, what do u think about it - can we win more often at the casino if we play for fun (in that case we will have to play not for the big money in my eyes)?

It doesn't affect the games themselves, no. Games are just random, they don't care if you're happy or sad or angry. But you may be less likely to make bad decisions (chasing losses) and you'll probably enjoy the experience more with a positive perspective.

exactly, I cannot say that will affect the games but for sure will change your decisions while playing. And if u take mostly the decisions with risk free I believe the chance is higher

The best way to win more at a casino is to realize the reality: That the casino always holds the edge (except in the case of card counting), and that the best way to maximize your odds is to implement proper strategy if appropriate in a game like blackjack or video poker.

Yeah, the autoshufflers take card counting out of the equation, but basic strategy should still be in place. House will always win in the long run, but short term you stand better odds of walking away ahead if you use the strategy. I like the live dealer stuff because they aren't constantly shuffling, but they do use a lot of decks.

In my opinion the basic strategy is to play the same way the dealer does - can u specify what is do u mean by basic strategy?

Gambling's psychological impact cannot be understated. It may have a profound effect on a person's attitudes, feelings, and actions and may even trigger the emergence of a gambling addiction. Gambling can be an exhilarating and thrilling activity, with the attraction of potentially winning enormous quantities of money adding to the exhilaration. It's critical to be aware of the psychological dynamics at work when gambling and to adopt responsible gambling practises, such as placing restrictions on the amount of time and money you spend doing it. For people who may be battling with the psychological repercussions of gambling, getting help from friends, family, or a professional can be beneficial.

u are on 100% right, I've been working for more than 10 years at land based cainos and perhaps met most of the gamblers profiles - my conclusions are that people who are there for fun winning more often.

But playing for fun it is not only enough in my eyes, perhaps ther eis smth more deep in our brains cose most of the time I am trying to play fur fun but I dont win so often )))

Basic strategy means playing to determine when to hit, stand, double down, or split depending on the number of decks and the rules of the table. Those are options the dealer doesn't always have, so you're not playing like the dealer would.

The Wizard of Odds has articles on basic strategy. Check out his 4-8 deck guide here.

Ed's note: or you could just use our blackjack guide right here.

I don't really think the playing for fun or to make money makes difference when it comes to winning.

What happens imo, is, those that play for fun are less likely to be noticed when they lose, they don't get angry, they play what they can afford to lose.

Hello. In my opinion, it is very difficult to beat a casino under any circumstances. Because you always play the enemy on its field and according to its rules. That is, you can win, but there are only two options: either you are really lucky and you stopped immediately and took your winnings, or you are a mathematical genius who miraculously did not get on the casino's blacklist and went inside! For example, to win more often, I alternate between casinos and sports betting. If you use all the bonuses on online betting resources, you can get pretty high.

Avalanche, Its like the law of attraction. What you put out there is what you get back, if you believe in that sort of thing. Maybe its real and KamenValev witnessed it himself .

Play short term if possible. For example, playing the slot. If you win big, cash out right there. Chances are thats the only big spin you're getting. And if you keep playing, and dont know when or how to walk away when you're up, the casino will take it all back eventually.
