Took a Trip to the Keys

10 replies • Last post

Hey everyone, last week I got to take an awesome trip to the Florida Keys and thought I'd share some pics with you. I went down to get my Scuba certification, but have a clog in my ears (that STILL hasn't gone away!), so I only was able to knock out three pool dives and one ocean dive. It was disappointing not to be able to get it done, but I'll do it when I can get my ears not to hurt.

Outside of that, I ended up driving the Overseas Highway to Key West, which was really cool. Probably one of the best drives I've ever taken. I went to Ernest Hemmingway's house, went to the Southernmost Point in the continental US, had some awesome grub, chilled on some nice beaches, and drank a lot of beer!

In all, I loved it. Came back to Michigan where it was 28 degrees... was missing that 83 that I had in Key West right away!

Thanks Ev_P! It was a ton of fun. Not gonna lie, I looked to see what it'd cost me to live there while I build my house in the Bahamas (next door, basically).

I can totally understand the attraction but hey, the severity of those damn hurricanes you guys get down then would be a HUGE deterrent for me. They would be my reason to just take the destination as a holiday one in fair weather. Those buggers would send me to an early grave just knowing one was on the way even before it hit.

It sure is a beautiful place. We had an ice storm last night into this morning, and I was wondering what the hell I'm still doing here. 😂😂

Beautiful photos man. 😎👍

All I can think when I see those roads about 1m above sea level is how they are going to be regularly underwater in the not too distant future, especially when those hurricanes hit.

Oh yeah. The Keys took a big hit in 2017, I think. I was hiking some trails in a mangrove area, and saw a whole section that was knocked out by the hurricane. The destruction was crazy, especially considering it was surrounded by wooded area.

I could imagine seeing those roads completely washed out as well. It just seems so crazy to me that that highway exists. It's so audacious to have a road that connects those islands over a hundred mile stretch. It just boggles the mind.

They Keys are so cool for views, Nowak. It's very expensive to live there, but man it'd be a blast to go fishing and just hang out down there when your work is done for the day...
