2022 Oscars Tipping Competition. Pick the winners for CLChips!

19 replies • Last post

oscar_2022_hosts.jpg

The 94th Academy Awards sees in a year where cinemas are opening again and movie production is picking up after a few tough Covid years. And for the first time since 2018, we'll see hosts return to the Oscars - Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes - all women and notably 2 are women of colour!

I'm also pleased to announce the return of our Oscars Tipping Comp! Use your knowledge, ask your friends or try dumb luck to predict the winners of this year's Oscars and you could win up to 200 CLChips. We're running a little late this year, the Oscars will air Sunday 27th March 8PM EDT (US time), so get your picks in, STAT!

The rules are simple:
1. Entry is free to all Casino Listings members.  Register here if you aren't a member yet.
2. Nominate your winner in each of the categories below in a reply to this thread. The person who picks the most winners scoops the pool of 100 CLchips.
3. If there is a tie we will split the pool evenly.
4. If someone gets every single category right, we'll double the prize to 200 CLchips.
5. Entries close at the beginning of the Oscars ceremony on Sunday, 27 March 2022, 8 EDT
6. You can enter multiple times if you change your mind, but only your last dated post will be used as your entry.

The Oscars are over for another year and what a ceremony it was! 2022 will be remembered as the year of red gowns, political statements and great speeches but the most memorable will be Will Smith smacking down Chris Rock and dropping the F-bomb, multiple times, on live TV.

It was a year with many winners across all the categories but Dune took out the most with 5 out of the 23 awards.

1. Best Picture - CODA
2. Actor In a Leading Role - WILL SMITH, King Richard
3. Actor In a Supporting Role - TROY KOTSUR, CODA
4. Actress In a Leading Role - JESSICA CHASTAIN, The Eyes of Tammy Faye
5. Actress In a Supporting Role - ARIANA DEBOSE, West Side Story
6. Animated Feature Film - ENCANTO
7. Best Adapted Screenplay - CODA, Screenplay by Siân Heder
8. Cinematography - DUNE
9. Directing - THE POWER OF THE DOG, Jane Campion
10. Best Original Song - NO TIME TO DIE from No Time to Die
11. Visual Effects - DUNE
12. Extra special question - DUNE

Based on the categories in our tipping comp congratulations goes to Frankey78 (lucky for you staff don't qualify 😜) with 6 correct picks. Enjoy your 100 CLChips!!

Man, Chris Rock was such a pro. He just took the hit and carried on. It all looked like a setup to me (and others judging by the chuckles from the audience) until Smith opened his mouth and removed any confusion. Sheesh how tacky.

That is a fella that's trying to compensate for something. How gross. I reckon his wife put him up to it, and that's a shame, as the evening was going to be revolved around his biggest accomplishment.

I agree. And even though I thought the joke that was made wasn't a good one, you can't just go around and start hitting people. On top of that, in front of all your past/current/future employers and colleagues at an event like this.

Perhaps they should rethink the small intimate layout of the Oscars for next year....the nominees were so close to the stage 😳

There must be a heap of things going on behind the scenes as that was an over the top, emotionally charged response to a joke. I wonder if Chris Rock knew about Jada Pinkett Smith having alopecia?

And the ramifications are huge for Will Smith - after winning the best actor his career should be on the up but now many of his upcoming projects are under question.

You know, in the beginning when this happened, I had mixed feelings about the situation, just because I did think that the joke was bad. But then I realised- just because someone says a joke that you might find insulting, doesn't mean you can do what he did. Especially, at an event like this. Can't imagine how it felt for Chris Rock to then just continue hosting the show as if nothing happened. And yes, now his actions have consequences..
