I had surgery on Monday

19 replies • Last post

So for the past several months, I've been having some shoulder pain. I was lifting a heavy drone box and ended up popping my shoulder. I went through physical therapy and several tests they weren't entirely sure what was wrong.

On Monday I had my shoulder scoped. They are not finding a large bone spur that was shredding at my muscle, as well as a bit of damage to my biceps tendon. They ended up shaving the bone spur down, sucking out the bone and damaged muscle, and then cutting and rerouting my biceps tendon into a groove and then acre and get to the bone. It's now Wednesday morning and I'm actually feeling OK although very sore. I've been trying to do some work and that's a bit of a challenge with one arm, lol.

I had a very similar procedure done on my right shoulder when I was 18. It's funny to see how much different things are in the 20 years since that first surgery. This time they gave me a nerve block but used ultrasound to find the nerve. The first time I had it done I remember the guy just sticking in needle in my neck and shooting medicine into the nerve. Seems like this time is more accurate, although part of my tongue went numb after the block and is still numb LOL.

I'm hoping my recovery isn't as long as the first time, as I have a dive trip planned, and want to start flying again. Has anyone else had a similar surgery? How long did it take you to get back in the sale?

Thanks for the well wishes, guys. I'm hanging in there. Today is actually the sorest I've been. I'm feeling it up my arm and through my shoulder to the neck. I'm sure I'll be feeling a lot better on Monday though! I can't wait to be able to move. 😀

Take it easy! Allow your body to rest- it's the perfect time to read a book or watch some new tv series. 🙂

Thanks blck. I'm just over a week out. I've been really sore this week. I think everything is healing up. I'm doing pretty good otherwise. I'm still working and easing myself out of the sling where I can, although I'm still pretty limited.

I had a similar experience. Just that mine involved complications during my conception-my left-hand nerve was torn by the nurses while pulling me out of the womb. It became a permanent Erbs pulsy. But I'm happy for you.

Just don't overwork your hand for now, however tempting those planned activities are.

Sorry to hear that. Did you try some painkillers and put ice on it?

Yeah, I've been icing and taking some of the non-opioid painkillers. I don't wanna get hooked on those things, ya know?

Trying my best to keep it rested and hopefully the pain subsides in a few days.

Thanks coolsongss. I am in physical therapy right now. Can lift 2 pounds up to about my belly. Getting the range of motion back and then working the strength. In terms of pricing, I'm not sure what it runs. We have medical insurance that I pay $150 a month for. That leads to me paying a lower amount. I think my max out of pocket for the year for medical is $1,500 per year, so I'm probably maxed out for the year.

I'll let ya know what it costs when I see a bill.

Don't know what to say man except for...speedy recovery slim!

Never had such an experience my self but you probably know better than me there's always some time needed before you're getting up to 100% again after a surgery of any kind really.

Good to know there's a point in paying for medical insurance... well at least in US I guess, here they would probably charge you for all the interventions on top of the insurance as well, the standard med insurance I mean which is charged monthly from your paycheck not if you have an additional one.

I'm all recovered now. It's been a while, and although It's likely to never get back to 100%, it's good enough that I can do things I'd normally do, and I'm even back to playing hockey.

Just read the OP and damn it sounded bad, I'm glad you recovered and even able to play hockey.

Good luck man, and don't think about that "100% recovery", RTP is usually around 95-96% 🙂
To hell with it, even if we all give 100% of ourselves in everything we do, that 100% is lower and lower as years are passing by. 🙂 Stay strong.

Thanks, man! I'm currently rehabbing a knee injury due to the hockey. It never stops, LOL! 😂😂
