2022 Oscars - Nominees List

15 replies • Last post

It's that time of the year again. The 94th Academy Awards will take place on 27 March 2022.

Here's the list of nominees

What do you think of this year's selection?

These are my initial standout bets.

Luca is a risky pick at 5.00 odds because Encanto ticks all of those cultural "virtue-signaling" boxes for the Oscars (I hate to use that word), however, that might come across too transparent and Luca is simply the better film.

Don't Look Up is another calculated risk at 6.00 but the Netflix film is highly subversive, on-trend, and has the big-name cast to help justify an Oscar win. It's also pandering to Hollywood in the best ways, so I think it has a real shot in this category.

I also wanted to bet on the Best Actress category - specifically Olivia Colman at 6.00 - but I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger with heavy competition from Nicole Kidman and Kristen Stewart.

I'm actually really excited about the oscars! Lately I've been really into the film industry so I'm excited to see who'll win. For the best actress I'd like Kristen Stewart to win, and if not her then Nicole Kidman. As for Don't Look Up- it's on my watchlist but haven't seen it yet. For the makeup category, while I liked Cruella, House of Gucci is a clear winner for me.

OK, I need to pick up my game. I've only seen Luca and Coming 2 America, I suspect that will not put me in a good position to choose any winners. 🤣

There are SO many great movies this year. Just watched some of the trailers for Best Picture,
there are some tear jerkers in the mix. Will need to start the movie marathon!

Among the best picture nominees,
I saw Don't look up, Drive my car, Dune, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley(today 😎).

Among these four movies, Licorice Pizza is the best one for me.

NIghtmare Alley is right up my alley 👍❤️🔥

I saw Drive My Car earlier this week and while I love independent films, this was NOT for me. It was a painful 3 hours!! 🤯😱

The director is now pretty a well known one in Japan and Korea. His movies tend to have complicated plots and tons of dialogues.

You know, struggling for or getting over something like big losses, trauma, disappoints, etc. is a common theme of Japanese movies.

I came to like this movie much because I felt the ending this movie sort of realistic and practical.

Saw Belfast on Monday - it's quite a simple film touching on theCatholic/Protestant issues in Ireland. It's beautifully shot with some lovely dialogue. The little boy is just adorable, Jamie Dornan (the dad) offers some great eye candy and Caitríona Balfe (the mum) is stunning. So there's something for everyone, but even with all that, I don't think it will win the best picture

I'm excited! I really hope Kristen Stewart wins the best actress nominee. I have seen Don't Look Up and liked it a lot, still have to see the Lost Daughter, but it seems very intriguing.

There will be a lot of good movies released in 2022, which will make it hard to choose which one is the best. There were a lot of great actors who came back as Spider-Man in Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. The film also had a multiversal storyline that was very creative. That is my favorite Spider-Man movie ever (along with Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse from 2018 and Spider-Man 2 from 2004).

I saw the Lost Daughters today and I really liked it. It's very artsy and definitely won't be everyones' cup of tea, but there was something really captivating. Hope it does well in the Oscars!

Aside from the conflict between Rock and Smith, I don't remember much about this Oscar.
