I got the rona

17 replies • Last post

So, like everyone else these days (it seems) I've come down with Covid-19. I got it from my kids, who got it from their mother at the house she's at. I'm kinda bummed, as I had surgery scheduled for next week and now it's postponed.

I have an autoimmune disease and have to take an immunosuppressant. Because of this, the Physician Assistant at the urgent care I went to recommended this new Covid-19 pill called Paxlovid. She said it can help increase my odds of not getting Covid too badly. I'm also vaccinated and boosted, but I thought I'd give them a try to see how I turn out.

I started the pills Monday. The first thing I noted is that there's this bitter taste on my tongue all the time, which is a side effect of the drug. I also woke up at 2am on Tuesday with a bunch of energy. I ended up having to go to work because I couldn't sleep. I did feel kind of gross Monday and Tuesday with runny nose, sore throat, aches, and fatigue.

Today is Wednesday, and I have to say that I feel pretty dang good! I have some fatigue left, but as opposed to the first time I had a go with Covid, I'm doing a lot better. When I had Covid before I was so miserable and it lasted almost two weeks before I was on the up-swing. This time, I'm on day three (or four if you count late Sunday), and I feel really good. I have to say the pills work, at least in my case.

I do still have to stay in the house for a considerable period of time. Any recommendations for shows/movies/games to partake in? I watched Top Gun last night and beat The Wolf Among Us. I still have a few more days of isolation, so give me suggestions!

Geez man, sorry to hear you've caught this damn thing again. But at least it sounds a little positive that the vax and the pills are working.

I think what you need is a show called Future Man. Not one to watch with the kids though... I'll say no more.

I caught it at the start of this year. But it only lasted for about 20 hours and I was symptom free.
Let me tell you, the first 6 or 7 hours , no word of a lie, it was some of the worst pain I have ever felt in my almost 40 years of life.
I took some extra strength Tylenol, I also had a couple T3's I took and nothing calmed the pain I felt through my entire body. I worked 14 hours that day moving furniture, so I was exhausted. I was only home for a couple hours when the pain kicked in, and I dont think I slept longer than just a couple minutes at a time throughout the night. I finally fell asleep around 8-9am and woke up around 1pm. The pain was gone, I had a bit of a sore throat, and went to get tested and a covid-19 positive came back. Sore throat was gone by that same evening and never felt another symptom since.
I was and still am unvaccinated, but if I knew how much pain I was going to go through prior to that night, I almost surely would have gotten vaccinated.

I hope you and your family get better soon slim . I'm not a praying man, but I'll pray that pain never finds it way into yours or anyone else's home.

I'm all better, guys! I was almost all better by Wednesday and by Thursday I was feeling just about 100%. As a fatso with rheumatoid arthritis, I was kind of concerned. That said, the Paxlovid pills seemed to cut my infection by a ton and got me back on my way.

My surgery is now scheduled for 2/7 so here's hoping I'll be all set and ready to go for spring time!

I got it twice last year. What I remember is that it wasn't the typical flu I was used to as it involved headaches, fever, and stomachache. The flu was too much I couldn't go to public places. So I tried taking a combination of tablets and cold syrup which gave me some relief after 3 weeks.

Well folks I got hit over the weekend and I am in day 3 of my covid isolation time. The first day was pretty brutal - lots of shivers and feeling cold followed by waves of fever. But after that it has been like a bad cold. I have a blocked/runny nose and an annoying dry cough now but I'm already feeling way better than a couple of days ago. Fingers crossed I'll be back to normal in a couple of days.

I actually finished season 3 of Future Man last night. It went down a very weird path in that 3rd season so I think it was a good decision to end it. The "based on a true story" final credits were epic though.

Yes I am thanks. It lasted a week but after the first bad day of fevers it was more or less just like a cold. I had a bit of a dry cough and a blocked nose but nothing more, so I'm thankful that I didn't get it bad.

Two questions OP, which variant of the strain did you catch, were you told? And secondly< are you vaxed?

I'm not the OP but for what it's worth I'm triple vaxxed (Pfizer x2 + Moderna) and they didn't tell me which strain, just that I tested positive.

Ahh sorry for getting my fingers crossed with the OP, but damn... Triple vaxxed and still got it! Still hope you have a speedy recovery and the vaccine has lower the severity of the symptoms. Without turning this completely political I'll stay away from questioning the purpose of a vaccine which doesn't prevent you from catching what its supposed to. And its practically forced upon us to get it.

Take this light heartedly and the way its intended to be, but if a vet told me my dog needed this to stop it getting rabies, and after three shots my dog still got rabies, I'd be questioning my vets motive lolz.

Happy betting...

Yeah no worries I guess that's a matter of expectations management - I did not think that getting vaxxed would make me 100% immune. We know that the vaxxes aren't perfect for the new strains that keep evolving, but I did expect that it would stop me from getting a severe and/or fatal case. Also that it would help slow the spread to others that are less healthy or with conditions that make it so they can't be vaccinated.

From what I can gather I had a pretty mild case, as in I've had worse colds before. None of my family got it from me either. So without being able to tell for sure I guess it worked as intended.

Realistically I'm expecting that we'll require new vaccinations probably every year from now on like the flu shots. Maybe they will eventually come up with a combined flu/rona shot.

I was with my cousin last night and he mentioned that him and his wife had caught the Rona just after I saw him last, both had mild/medium severity of symptoms and are both vaxxed also.

He agreed with me that it's a bit confusing that the vaccine isn't actually preventing the host from catching the virus, but it's clear that the symptoms are 'milder' than if they hadn't had the vaccine and caught it.

He hadn't caught the virus prior so he had nothing to cross reference with, so I'm wondering who out here has had the Rona pre-vaxxed and post-vaxxed? And was there a noticeable difference of the severity of the symptoms?

I'm not an anti-vaxxer per sec, but I'm reluctant and cautious with this virus and all information with regards to it. Luckily I'm fortunate enough to live very remotely so having the virus come close enough to me where I can potentially catch it is already a very low chance. I guess time will tell with regards to containing and living with this new bug.

That would be ideal. With RA and taking immunosuppressants, I have to get a flu shot annually and I'll have to get boosters for Covid more frequently. One combined shot would save me a lot of hassle.
