general hobby thread ...please feel free to post some hobby related stuff

because i have been waiting for material from china for ages and i
could no longer work, i started another project in between

AT-ST hasbro toy conversation

now what is a toy conversation?
some star wars collectible toys are just too ugly to put at home, but offer
a solid base to make a nice model out of them. in addition, they are relatively
cheap and larger than model kits. Sure there are also large model kits, but
they can quickly cost 400-500 € or more. of course you have to invest a little
bit of work but it's worth it. so a toy conversation is a a modified toy.
in this case i tryed to turn a hasbro AT-ST toy into a modell.

this is not the final result...i have to repaint/airbrush it and
i planed to put it into a little diorama...so far i did all modification
and primed the AT-ST

what I've changed:

i closed all open plastic columns and gaps with plastic filler
reshaped the complete window section and added new window covers
closed the large head cover and filled the gaps with plastic filler
cut of the knee fender from the legs
cut free the recesses on the legs
added a new handrail
added tubes and cables to the head and the base
added details on the back of the head and under the head
added details on the inside of the legs
added the running springs for the lower legs
closed all holes for screws with plastic filler

great job. Not into model building but I do recognize excellent work. My hobby is World of Tanks(wot.com) mostly with some gambling. I would like get back to playing chess but it is so hard and when u start to beat someone they quit so u just get less cred for the win. I think I play on freechess.com it may be chess.com.

I totally get that. Having something tangible to show your accomplishments is a real thing. I don't have that myself, but I get where you're coming from!

Speaking of weathering. I play world of tanks(wot.com) on PC(not silly console, just kidding console ppl). On the Tank game you have hundreds of different options for paint, decals, etc. It is free to play so, of course, they try their best to get you to spend $ on stuff like paint, camo, special edition tanks. Thankfully, you can live without that stuff and earn credits by good gameplay and buy your own tanks, train your crew and upgrade your turret, tracks, engine, radio, etc. Wot.com it is a large download(10 to 15 gigs) but updates are not bad it is FREE. I'll try to post some sceenshots of tanks I own. BTW, there is no bs daily upkeep to do to keep your tanks. You can comeback a week, a month, a year later and have all the stuff u earned with credits. You can buy premium tanks that earn more credits but you can win them too. Heck, they sometimes give you tanks also. Some of the best tanks come with weathering and look badass. There are 5 types of tanks heavy, medium, light or scout tanks, tank destroyers and spg(also known as mobile arty the bane of all the other tanks). Note; Arty players are mostly hated by all the other players, lol.

That deck is looking good I have a huge L shaped deck that is at least 30 years old. The guy that built it was cheap(he didn't run the support post through and he didn't put post on the inside either) but I believe it was $3k us. 30 years ago worth of lumber and back then that was a Lot of lumber. So, being so old I need to replace some of the decking with those composite boards. Don't they make that out of recycled material?

I got this old school robot fan from my grandma and grandpa's house. It hails from 1986 and is weathered from years of taking in my grandpa's cigar smoke.

I'm going to go through and clean it up, replace the eyeballs, and get it back in shape to put on display in my office.

Will post updated shots.

Yes, it's like recycled plastic mixed with recycled wood bits and press it all together to form the planks. With the price of wood right now, composite may actually be cheaper!

There's something about your robot fan that reminds me of Johnny 5 from the movie Short Circuit!

Hahahaha. Yes!

I'm on a bit of an old robot kick right now. I have an old 2XL robot that I had when I was a kid that played cassette tapes and you went through interactive stories or answered trivia questions. I have to dig it out of my parents' basement, but it'll be on display in my office.

I also am considering trying to find an old R.O.B. robot from Nintendo. Interesting story: Back in the day the video game market crashed in the States. Nintendo wanted to launch its NES/Famicom here, but toy stores wouldn't accept it because it wasn't a "toy". In order to get into the stores, Nintendo packaged R.O.B. with the console and was able to get its foot in the door.

I'm a huge nerd with that stuff, and I always find it interesting.

Yes to both! I had to go hunt down the lightbulbs for his eyes, as one was burnt out. I got them both up and working now. I got a good chunk of him cleaned up, but I need to still get the underside and open him up to clean the fan blades.

And yeah, I have the Great Wave sitting on my wall. I really like those old print-style art pieces. Cliche, but I dig them!

Another thing I've been getting into lately is photography. I bought a mirrorless camera and have gotten out a couple times to try to learn how it works. I'm reading up and learning fundamentals of photography and hope to get good one day.

Here's what I've gotten so far.

I love it vomvom12. Did you know that you can go visit the real one in Tunisia?

Do you have a room where you put all these models on display? Or do you rotate them in and out when you build a new one?

Also I heard a track on spotify that you can listen to while you paint the landspeeder. Here it is on youtube.. with top comment being "Revenge of the synth" 😂
