Saying Goodbye to an Old Friend

12 replies • Last post

Today my family and I are saying goodbye to our 13 year old Corgi, Princess. She was a rescue dog that we picked up back in 2010, and have spoiled her ever since. We love this dog so much, and it hurts to say goodbye to her. She was stubborn, chubby, and liked to get in everyone's business, but she was also sweet, cuddly, and a good companion.

This isn't my first time putting a dog down, but it doesn't get any easier. I'm happy for the time we've had with her and rest easy knowing she's out of pain.

So cheer my day up a bit. Share your favorite pet stories with me. 🙂

So sorry to hear that, barbados. What's important is that you gave her a good life during her time on earth and everyone's lives were better for those 10 years.

My dog is getting up there in age too and we'll probably be going the same route here at some point soon. But even in her old age, the level of excitement you see in her face whenever we come home is unreal and comical. Just leaving the room and coming back is like a rabid fan meeting a celebrity. 😂

Oh, I am sorry to hear about your dog. I had one dog. When she was gone, it was really a hard time.

Your family gave her a new life and much love.

You will be blessed.

Cheer up!!!

Well that brought instant tears to my eyes. Still hurting after almost three years of missing Otis.

I can only say to find comfort in the memories and know that you loved and you were loved!

I'm so sorry to hear about your pet, your family member. Hope you're doing ok.

To cheer you up a bit, here's a short story of mine. Many years ago, a friend of mine asked if his cat could stay out our place. We (my best friend and I) wanted a cat and were more than willing to help out. We took care of the cat and were nice, it was obvious that the cat had had trauma from his previous owner (the guy was seriously strange in a bad way). So when he got to our place, he would use the litterbox only for pee and every morning we would go into the kitchen and find up to 5 little "presents" on the floor. Now looking back at it it's a bit fun yet at that time so frustrating! Later on the friend took the cat back and the cat was finally ok and became super sweet.

Sorry to hear slim, it's tough enough losing a pet that's part of your family, it's even tougher to have to make that decision you made. You're a great man for doing the right thing. I hope you and your family are coping alright.

This is my buddy Nightmare, hes 20 pounds of cat and he knows he's much larger than almost all the other cats around lol he's a bully to other cats but a faithful companion to me and kind to all others. He thinks he's a dog really, he sits, stays, comes when he is called, most of the time lol . He even runs to the door if we have a visitor .
I hope me sharing my buddy's strange behavior for a cat gives you a bit of relief, if even for a second. Take care slim.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. We're working to deal with the increased quietness around the house. The other dogs we have been kinda mopey, as they've definitely noticed. The kids are also petitioning for a new corgi puppy... ugh.

Welp, we're sad to have Princess gone, but my wife suckered me into picking up a new puppy today. We got this little girl, Bailee today. She was bred at an Amish farm, and it was quite interesting to pull up and spend some time there.

The dog seems pretty cool thus far. She's 8 weeks old and already thinks she runs the joint.
