The new small-town crime thread

Due to request from sharpe, I'm bringing back my small town newspaper's crime reports, which feature some very light complaints.

Here's some of the new batch from late last month, and this month. More will be added moving forward.

10:09 p.m. -- A 30-year-old Homer Township man reported getting suspicious text messages from an unknown subject. There are currently no suspects, and the man blocked the phone number.

1:51 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to an Ingersoll Township residence to speak with a 59-year-old woman regarding a civil complaint. The woman was upset her 30-year-old son had withdrawn and spent $500 from his savings account. The 59-year-old said he was acting irresponsibly. The deputy informed the woman that this was not a crime.

10:11 p.m. -- A deputy responded to the Village of Sanford in reference to a suspicious situation. The deputy made contact with a 55-year-old Lee Township woman who reported that her car had a flat tire while she was at work. She was not sure if the tire had been punctured maliciously or not, but she wanted the event documented.

12:05 a.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to a Mount Haley Township residence for a request from an 81-year-old woman to have her late husband's medications disposed of. The deputy picked up the unused medication and properly discarded it at the Law Enforcement Center.

1:19 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to a Hope Township residence in reference to neighbor issues. The caller, a 54-year-old man, said his neighbors have complained to him over the years about him burning hay or brush on his property. The neighbor, a 67-year-old woman, told him she has health problems. The man said he tries to burn on days the wind isn't blowing towards the neighbors and tries to keep it to a minimum. The man also said he was doing it today because burning was allowed today after it had not been for some time. The neighbor and her husband stopped in a vehicle near the road and walked a few feet up his driveway. There was a verbal exchange about him not burning and he also yelled back that he could burn the items. The man just wished for it to be documented in case there were further problems.

4:08 p.m. — A 57-year-old Homer Township woman reported that an unknown male subject contacted her requesting cash to clear her name. The man spoke with a heavy unfamiliar accent, claimed to be from the FBI Texas Division and knew the last four digits of her Social Security number. The man told the woman she would be subject to local arrest because a vehicle that she allegedly owned had been found on the side of the road near the Mexican border containing blood and drug money. The woman instructed the man that she was going to the Midland County Sheriff's Office and the man tried stopping her from doing so saying that local law enforcement would not be able to assist her. The deputy called the telephone number and it was no longer in service. The woman was provided with an identity theft checklist and asked to contact the Social Security Administration as a precautionary measure. She is not out financially as a result of the incident.

1:27 p.m. — A 73-year-old Larkin Township woman called 9-1-1 to report that her neighbor had been yelling profanities at her about the dandelions in her yard. Contact was made with the neighbor, a 68-year-old woman, who complained the her neighbor's dandelions were encroaching onto her property. The deputy requested that the women avoid all contact with each other if they are unable to get along peacefully. According to both women, their disputes have been ongoing for several years. Both parties agreed to avoid each other.

Ha-ha..obviously not a happy ending to that and the bush burning story... 🙂

But the id thief story sounds quite serious...can't believe what these people can think of just to stole your identity..a whole thriller script there.

Sharpe, I went to dinner with my wife's grandmother and her friend was at the restaurant as well. She went on a 20 minute long story (ugh) about some scammers that wanted them to pay for computer repairs with iTunes card. She was so proud that she didn't fall for it but stayed on the phone with them for hours. She told me the whooooooole script and it was ridiculous. I can't believe people fall for it.

I also can't believe she'd spend so much time on the phone with them.

Ha-ha..commiseration Slim! I'm sure you're aware of the every tiny detail of that affair now 😉

But well done on her part for being smart enough to stay away.

And yeah I'm also amazed how some people fall for it but obviously the scammers goes after older people usually who of course are not that aware of the modern technologies (when it's about that) and if they succeed in just 10% of their tries they still "earn" a good money I guess.

You know what that is one of the best things she could have done. It wastes their time and stops them from targeting someone else. But of course who has the spare time to do such things? I salute your elderly grandmother in law.

8 p.m. -- A deputy responded to an Edenville Township neighborhood in reference to a report of gunshots. A 44-year-old man reported that he heard what sounded like a gunshot of a small caliber. The deputy was able to hear two more "shots" and was able to locate the origin: a 66-year-old Edenville Township man was shooting off firecrackers.

8:44 p.m. -- A 59-year-old woman reported a dog barked at her while she was walking down the road. She said the dog ran in the yard to the edge of the road and returned to the house after she yelled at it. A deputy made contact with the 42-year-old dog owner who said the dog does not leave the yard and he will try to keep a better eye on the dog.

Lol...no one would of thought calling the police for that here...it happens all the time..I wonder if I would recognize a gunshot if I ever hear one with all these fireworks....seems like people always celebrating something.

Yeah, I hear firecrackers a lot in the summer. I mean they are pretty close to small calibers like .22, but nothing I'd call the cops over.

In reference to the man claiming he was from the FBI, I have recieved 2 different voicemails in the last month from a Male and female claiming they were FBI agents and I was wanted for questioning and if I continued to avoid their attempts then further actions will be required.
I called both numbers left and both were disconnected, plus, I figured if the FBI were calling me for anything, then it would be of some importance and they wouldn't just leave a voicemail and give up once not returned lol
"Well that fugitive got away, too bad he didn't return that voicemail we left him " you know what I mean haha.

I guess these scammers are trying some new tactics maybe?

Okay, this may be my favorite one of these crime reports ever!

11:03 p.m. -- A deputy responded to an Edenville Township residence for a report of malicious destruction of property. A 55-year-old Edenville Township woman told the deputy that her neighbor cut the lines to her transmission, which was causing her car to not move. The deputy explained to the woman that it was obvious that her car was stuck in the mud in her driveway and there was nothing mechanically wrong. The deputy pushed the woman's car out of her driveway.

😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀

Lol, poor neighbor... 😉

I feel sorry for the guy who had to not only find the right words to explain the "car situation" but also pushed her car out of the mug...quite tough job obviously 🙂

7:44 p.m. -- Deputies were dispatched to an Edenville Township residence for a report of a 15-year-old girl being harassed by a 16-year-old girl. The 15-year-old said the 16-year-old was harassing her earlier in the day at Sanford Park. Deputies spoke with both parties and their parents. Both parties agreed to leave each other alone and not to spread rumors about one another.

9:05 p.m. -- Deputies responded to a Porter Township residence in reference to a complaint of malicious damage to property. Deputies spoke with a 31-year-old Porter Township woman, who said she and a 53-year-old Jerome Township male got into a verbal argument over a Zippo lighter. She explained the man closed her front door very hard but did not damage it.

11:48 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to an East Blackhurst Road residence in Larkin Township in reference to loose horses. Three horses escaped their fenced-in enclosure and were eating grass along the roadway. The horse owners were not home and no one had a phone number for them. The deputy was able to lead the three horses back inside their enclosure and repaired the damaged fence so the horses did not get out again. The report will be forwarded to Animal Control.

9:11 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to the Midland County Jail in reference to a damage-to-property complaint. A sprinkler head valued at $745 was damaged. A 25-year-old man is suspected of damaging a sprinkler head inside the jail.

So the cops had to respond to their own property being busted...

12:56 a.m. -- Deputies investigated a video found on social media that appeared to depict a 14-year-old boy shooting a BB-gun into the mouth of one of his friends, also a 14-year-old boy. The gun was not loaded and there were no injuries. The friends were voluntarily participating in a homemade video in attempts to make a joke. All of the involved kids and their parents were contacted about the incident. The kids were spoken to about general gun safety and appropriate social media usage. There was no crime.

Holy, I agree with CL-Ed on that one, the dares, pranks, fads, initiations etc online with kids these days are getting worse and worse. Sad part is, nobody is really going to be able to stop it I wouldn't think, just prepare our own kids is my plan A.

I wonder what mr sprinkler will get charged with lol why didnt the guards and the warden just check out the surveillance videos? Also, it's kind of ironic that the time of that complaint is 911 lol

Lol, WaroftheGods. I didn't even notice that!

But yeah, I agree, these kids and their pranks are so stupid. I've seen kids hanging from a pedestrian bridge to see if they could shimmy across. Trying to be the next Jackass stars I guess... I mean you always assume a gun is loaded, even if you know it's not, and that rings true for BB guns as well. Kids are idiots.

That's exactly how I grew up Slim, always assume a gun is loaded, even when you know it's not. I got my first pellet gun when I was 12, .177 cal rifle and it had a scope on it, black all over. Before I was allowed to even touch it, my dad made me pass a gun safety test lol I passed my first try.

Have you seen some of the BB guns you can buy these days Slim? Some friends from work just started buying some here and there, and they're incredible. I'm talking like, replicas of different machine guns lol and these are fully automatic too, 50 BBs in just a few seconds is crazy from what I grew up with. Mine was one pellet pump action lol

Yeah, I had the one pellet pump. I've yet to see those new BB guns. My son wants one, but I think I'm just going to upgrade him to a .22.

He's already been out in the woods with us grouse and quail hunting and only a year or two from getting a 20 gauge... needless to say I need to win some more from online slots to help fund his expensive tastes. 😂

Lol I'm starting to think that all kids gravitate towards the most expensive, even without knowing it. I think I was around 14, 15 , somewhere around that age, maybe younger when I was given my first .22 , I still have it actually. How olds your son slim if you don't mind me asking?

He's 10, and we've been taking him out to the woods for the past few years. He sure seems to get out there pretty good, and he's a lot better getting through thickets than I am!

I was a city boy until I was 10, when we moved onto an acreage was my first taste of that side of life, it would have been cool to know that kind of stuff by that age.

Ha-ha...these roads are not as wide as they use to be..right?

How unlucky is to crash exactly in the parked police car...but luckily they've managed to arrest him because of the street footage.

So the guy has been drunk, doped or.... both...make your bets!

What makes this even better is that they didn't arrest him until a couple of hours later.

So how dumb do you have to be to firstly crash into a parked police car in a van full of meth, and then not unload it and hide it before they come and find you?
