The new small-town crime thread

Due to request from sharpe, I'm bringing back my small town newspaper's crime reports, which feature some very light complaints.

Here's some of the new batch from late last month, and this month. More will be added moving forward.

10:09 p.m. -- A 30-year-old Homer Township man reported getting suspicious text messages from an unknown subject. There are currently no suspects, and the man blocked the phone number.

1:51 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to an Ingersoll Township residence to speak with a 59-year-old woman regarding a civil complaint. The woman was upset her 30-year-old son had withdrawn and spent $500 from his savings account. The 59-year-old said he was acting irresponsibly. The deputy informed the woman that this was not a crime.

10:11 p.m. -- A deputy responded to the Village of Sanford in reference to a suspicious situation. The deputy made contact with a 55-year-old Lee Township woman who reported that her car had a flat tire while she was at work. She was not sure if the tire had been punctured maliciously or not, but she wanted the event documented.

12:05 a.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to a Mount Haley Township residence for a request from an 81-year-old woman to have her late husband's medications disposed of. The deputy picked up the unused medication and properly discarded it at the Law Enforcement Center.

10:04 p.m. -- Deputies responded to a report of a verbal argument at a Lee Township location involving a 17-year-old girl and her 38-year-old mother. The argument started because the girl wanted a bottle of conditioner to take a shower and the mother told her no. The 17-year-old agreed to respect her mother and the issue was resolved.

3:26 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to an Edenville Township residence for a report of a missing chainsaw and two fishing rods with reels. A 55-year-old man reported discovering his personal property was missing when he returned to the house after being gone for a week. The deputy discovered the chainsaw was at the 55-year-old's brother's house, but was unable to determine the whereabouts of the fishing equipment after speaking with the 42-year-old brother.

I have some real doozies for you today!

9:55 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to a Jerome Township gas station in reference to a possible drunk driver. The caller said a woman smelled of alcohol. Contact was made with the 61-year-old woman, who was returning beer cans. Alcohol was not a factor.

10:17 p.m. -- A 43-year-old woman reported that her 48-year-old husband stole $2,000 in horse tack from their marital home. The female was advised to document the incident and take pictures of everything at the home. The couple recently filed for divorce. The woman was advised to contact her attorney and give them the documentation for court filings.

10:04 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to a Mount Haley Township residence in reference to a 42-year-old man finding a peddle bike on the side of the road near his driveway. The man said he did not see anyone near the bike, so he found it suspicious. The deputy checked the area but did not locate anyone walking. The bike was not of much value, and the caller said he would put the bike in his garage if it was not picked up in the next day.

This isn't from my hometown, but it did happen about two hours away.

A dude was riding his motorcycle when he was struck by a FLYING TURKEY. This is actually a tragic case, as the dude lost his leg and ended up striking a road barrier. Sadly, he ended up dying after the fact, and the turkey pretty well exploded into bits.

Still, pretty crazy, as you never think you're going to be offed by Thanksgiving dinner.

I have a new found respect for the Turkey, or maybe more fear than respect. For years we've been taking down turkeys for our own consumption, and only now it seems they are taking a stand and fighting back. One kamikaze Turkey at a time

My condolences to the family and friends of the biker in this tragic story.

7:31 p.m. -- A deputy made contact with a 66-year-old man who said he had found two vehicles that have driven on the grass at a park in Hope Township. The deputy found no criminal activity and made contact with the head chairman of the park to report the findings. The chairman asked just to document the incident.

7:15 p.m. -- Deputies made contact with a 58-year-old Jerome Township woman who reported she was a victim of an online fraud. The 58-year-old purchased a bird online and the unknown seller demanded more money. The 58-year-old said she had lost about $850 in this incident. Deputies advised the woman that the incident was a scam and to not send money with a prepaid money card in the future when purchasing property.

11:06 a.m. -- A 27-year-old Ingersoll Township resident called 911 after seeing a 49-year-old walking through yards on her road. The deputy made contact with the man, who had gotten a lawn tractor stuck and was going door-to-door looking for someone to pull him out. Another neighbor lent him a hand.

Holy crap guys! I had a turkey experience today that was eerily reminiscent of that motorcycle guy.

I got stranded down in the Detroit area yesterday because we had a winter storm hit, and the roads were so bad that I decided it was safer to stay down than drive home. Today I was driving up and was on the highway (not far from where that dude smoked the turkey), and was going 75mph. All of a sudden I see a turkey flying off a tree toward the highway. I hit the brakes at the last second and clipped his tail feathers. I looked out the side mirror and saw him tumble in the fast lane and then into the median.

I don't know if the turkey lived or died, but I instantly thought of that motorcycle guy. It was crazy scary, and I have no doubt that the bird would have jacked my car up if I fully hit him. Thing had to have weighed at least 25/30 pounds!

And while we still on the bird theme... 😉 That have to be one of the most expensive ones...ever.

Hopefully it's a talking parrot and it could swear too 🙂 ..well if I've been it's new owner the bird would of be trained to do that in no time 😠

No joke, I'm on the lookout now as I fly my drones around! Knowing how things are going, they're going to attack the drone, make it crash into a propane tank, and cause a massive explosion or something. Crazy stuff.

That will get the adrenaline going instantly eh slim? Put in that same situation I think I probably would have crapped myself lol.
We were travelling back home just a few days ago from a couple jobs in northern Alberta, around 2-3am, very dark night. We created this hill with the semi and right there in the middle of the highway were 2 big Moose, they split into separate directions as soon as my buddy slammed the breaks and we barely avoided both of them.

Woof, I imagine a moose would do a lot more damage than a turkey!

8:36 p.m. -- Deputies were dispatched to a Warren Township residence after a 48-year-old woman reported her 17-year-old stepson was in possession of tobacco. Deputies issued the boy a citation for minor in possession of tobacco. A report was forwarded to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

9:22 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to a Mills Township residence in reference to a 77-year-old woman who received an angry text message from an unknown person. The text was very broad, and the unknown person later said he had the wrong number. The deputy called the phone number and found that it was a 52-year-old City of Midland man. He said he accidentally had the wrong number when he was upset at his daughter. He said everything was fine now, and that the message was sent out of anger.

7:27 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to a Lee Township residence in reference to a 40-year-old woman who was getting Facebook notifications on her phone from a 36-year-old Sanford woman's account. The 36-year-old was contacted and said it was because she was still logged in on the 40-year-old's phone. The 36-year-old said she will call the 40-year-old and explain to her how to log off Facebook.

Is that suppose to be illegal there?

Yeah thats a classic scam, I can't believe people still fall for those ones.

And I think I'm going to relate that story about the 11 year old boy to my son next time he complains when the screen gets turned off or taken away.

"Woof, I imagine a moose would do a lot more damage than a turkey!"

I dont know slim, we were in a semi, dragging 30,000 lbs of furniture we just finished loading plus whatever the truck weighs, although it wouldnt have ended well for us or the Moose, hitting a Bird that side on a motor bike, I'd have to say you are more likely to be seriously hurt then we would.
Not sure about a moose but deer are like hitting a tiny bird with a car, the truck doesn't slow down or even budge at all.
