The new small-town crime thread

Due to request from sharpe, I'm bringing back my small town newspaper's crime reports, which feature some very light complaints.

Here's some of the new batch from late last month, and this month. More will be added moving forward.

10:09 p.m. -- A 30-year-old Homer Township man reported getting suspicious text messages from an unknown subject. There are currently no suspects, and the man blocked the phone number.

1:51 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to an Ingersoll Township residence to speak with a 59-year-old woman regarding a civil complaint. The woman was upset her 30-year-old son had withdrawn and spent $500 from his savings account. The 59-year-old said he was acting irresponsibly. The deputy informed the woman that this was not a crime.

10:11 p.m. -- A deputy responded to the Village of Sanford in reference to a suspicious situation. The deputy made contact with a 55-year-old Lee Township woman who reported that her car had a flat tire while she was at work. She was not sure if the tire had been punctured maliciously or not, but she wanted the event documented.

12:05 a.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to a Mount Haley Township residence for a request from an 81-year-old woman to have her late husband's medications disposed of. The deputy picked up the unused medication and properly discarded it at the Law Enforcement Center.

10:28 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to a Lee Township residence at the request of a 33-year-old man who wanted the deputy to speak to his 11-year-old son, who had gotten in trouble at school. The 33-year-old said he felt that if the deputy talked to his son, he would realize that acting up in school is a serious matter. The deputy spoke to the boy bout being on his best behavior and thinking about his decisions before he acts.

11:15 a.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to a Jerome Township residence to speak with an 18-year-old woman regarding a suspicious noise she had heard coming from her garage. The deputy checked the residence and found nothing suspicious. There were several dogs in the home, so it is unsure if one of them made the noise.

9:43 p.m. -- A 60-year-old man called 911 to report that a Charter Communications worker was trespassing on his property. The man shares a driveway/easement with his neighbor. The 23-year-old Charter worker was working on his neighbor's internet. Deputies told the worker to pull all the way onto the neighbor's property so he wasn't in the easement. The 60-year-old said that Charter was not allowed to be on the property at all. Deputies told the man that he could not prevent utility workers from accessing the power poles/lines. He disagreed and said he would be suing Charter.

What about that for a parent lesson!

Are you allowed to own a firearms in Michigan, Dustin?

And could you in fact use it if someone breaking in your property?

Oh yeah, we're allowed to have guns here. You cannot use them though unless you think you're facing an immediate threat to your safety or your family's safety. I have a rifle and shotgun for hunting (deer and birds), and a pistol that I've only shot a handful of times at a range. In fact, it's been locked in the safe for the last few years, other than one time a guy escaped from police a few blocks over and was running through various yard and trying to get into houses to hide.

That's the only time it's ever come out, and even then I had the rounds in the mag but nothing in the chamber. I'd have had to rack, but that would have only happened if I had serious suspicion that he was on my property.

This one rings close to home, as today I was coming back from a doctor appointment and had a deer run full speed in front of my car. I was maybe three feet from schmucking the thing and needing to get a permit to harvest some venison.

Well, I wish you luck with the deer hunting.
Just a memory of a movie scene popped in the head and looked it up.

It is not really relevant with your deer to be chopped, but just sharing it 🙂

Wow,that's quite a fire power you've got there Dustin, surely I wouldn't risking trespassing your property if I ever go to Michigan anyway.

By the way I've always wanted to own a pistol but it's not really allowed here...must be cool to have one of these.

Eh, it's okay, nothing really special. Just there really. It's teeny tiny as well. Ruger LCP .380, which tucks into my front pocket if I needed to take it out with me.

I'm eagerly awaiting the next "crime wave" here in town so that I can let you know what's truly going on here. 😂

Be careful what's you wish for Slim...you sound like a maniac man 😂

Just birds and deer's man...just birds and deer's

Is that a girl's pistol anyway??

Or it's just has been created with the idea to be a compact as possible as a second weapon, you know..when the bad guys (or the cops 😎 ) find your original one in your pocket and then you're pulling that one out from... your sock 😉

But tiny or not I guess it's deadly as the rest of them...just a close range gun?

"You cannot use them though unless you think you're facing an immediate threat to your safety or your family's safety"

That leaves a huge grey area open, not to mention judging from some of these stories you've been posting here, and the severity of "crimes" people call in for, it's no wonder why there aren't more stories about granny's taking potshots at people thinking they're out to get them, or dead cows cuz their poop stinks lol

Yeah, it's meant to be tiny for concealing. A lot of cops use them as their secondary, and they use them in their ankle holsters. It's a no-joke gun in terms of bullet size.

Here's the latest drop from the newspaper.

9:58 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to a residence in Hope Township and made contact with a 60-year-old man. He said his neighbor, a 54-year-old man, had plowed snow and blocked an easement between them. The deputy contacted the neighbor and asked him to move the snow banks. The neighbor said he hired a private company to plow the snow and they did not know about the easement. He said he would contact them and ask them to move the snow as soon as possible.

5:18 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to an area in Lincoln Township in reference to a complaint of cattle not having shelter. The deputy made contact with the owner of the cattle, a 50-year-old woman, who said the animals have access to the barn if they choose to go in.

9:02 p.m. -- Deputies were dispatched to a Sanford business in reference to a possible counterfeit two-dollar bill. Upon investigation, the deputies found the bill to be authentic.

12:51 a.m. -- A deputy responded to a possible structure fire in Jerome Township. The deputy arrived on scene and determined the flames the caller had seen were from an outdoor heater. The heater was working properly, and being used to heat the inside of the structure, which was under construction.

For me, this line is funny 🙂
Just leave the cattle alone, they will go into the barn if they want 😀

Amen. They know what they're doing.

Interestingly, there's no silly complaints to file within the last week or so. Everything that's come up has been actually requiring police intervention. Here's hoping stuff goes back to normal.

Not that I know of, but I believe I heard someone had "relations" with a horse over in the Amish country.

Now that is one of your local police reports I would like to read. I can only imagine the dry description the writer would have come up with.

Cows are the best judge of what the weather is going to do better than the weather men lol, when a storms on the horizon, theyll run for shelter, when it's going to stay hot and sunny, they wont go far from the nearest source of water, theyll also be found usually on the top of hills laying down.

Ha-ha-ha...you're right there Chris it's probably gone too far this subject but at least we're in the right thread I think.."The new small town crime" 😉

Never thought of the "technical" side of the process man but I guess you have a good point there..but I guess there's always a way...if two(or more) of the god's creatures are attracted by each other...yeah that's right...it could be a mutual attraction that..don't you think!?! 😀

11:41 p.m. -- A 38-year-old Lee Township woman reported her 42-year-old sister-in-law was harassing her over Facebook. Both women were found to be messaging each other back and forth. They were advised to block each other until they can "learn to be nice."

11:56 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to a Lee Township residence in reference to a barking dog and trespassing complaint. A 67-year-old woman refused to leave her neighbor's property until their dog stopped barking. The neighbors, aged 42 and 72, refused to take their dog inside. A trespassing report has been sent to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

8:07 p.m. -- A deputy was dispatched to a Lee Township residence for a suspicious noise in a backyard. A deputy found that a tree branch had fallen recently. The homeowner, a 50-year-old woman, also said her dog had been barking uncontrollably. The deputy found several deer near her back deck eating acorns, which might have provoked the dog's reaction.

2:19 p.m. — A deputy was dispatched to a business in the Village of Sanford and made contact with the manager, who said one of her employees had miscommunicated with a customer, who then failed to pay for $9.99 worth of gasoline. The manager asked for the deputy's help in locating the customer, but they were unsuccessful.

3:57 a.m. — A deputy performed a traffic stop on a tractor-trailer that was dragging a chain, causing sparks. The driver rectified the situation.

LoL, the officer probably spent more in gas reaching there and that "case" would probably cost the taxpayers at least 100x the amount stolen for the author to be reviled 😉

But that doesn't mean you don't have to pay your 9,99$ bills at the gas-station guys or the police could be after you as well 🙂
