Mixcloud or Soundcloud, pick your poison...

wtf Ed...this is amazing
i have not listen through both mixes jet but the CL Sessions 1 is absolutly
dope ! track selecktion, mixing....perfect. and you get what in my eyes is
the most difficult thing about a good mix ... to build up an arc of tension...

final conclusion follows

fuxx Ed are you kidding me
the CL Sessions 1 is a absolut dancefloor burner ...mix from "interstellar" to "surreal" is
on point....love it. as i said before the track selection is brilliant. from " oxia" on your transitions
are not as shmooth as at the beginning but still impressive when you consider how long you've had your setup. "oxia" has this strange kind shuffled percussion loop which is almost impossible to mix cleanly...i would avoid mixing such tracks in a classic crossfade style ... almost always crooked.

my rating for a dj newbie : 10 from 10

ok to the next mix

Thanks man. You have a good ear. I realised I kind of screwed up the Oxia transitions after I listened back to it. As it was just slightly out I couldn't be bothered sitting there and doing it all again. I think I got everything on point in the second mix.

What do you think of the length I play each track? I like the long drawn out transitions with loops in the background and letting them play, but I know some people find that kind of boring and prefer to hear loads of track changes quickly. In CL sessions 2 I got interrupted by something near the end so one of the songs goes on a loop for a bit too long which kind of annoys me because otherwise I was happy with it, but the mix was almost over so I just let it be.

I've got another set lined up and ready to go so hopefully I'll have a new one done this weekend. I also found another site - https://hearthis.at/ - that lets me upload way more than Soundcloud and people can rewind while listening too.

sounds great Ed...last time you wrote something about a 3h upload
limit at soundcloud as a free user and i thought you are talking about a 3h uload
imit per mix and not a 3h uplod limit in total which is more then ridiculous. so bye bye soundcloud....

and about the length you play each track....Ed that is up to you..play the tracks youl
like and play them as long as you like...don't listen to much what other people
say...that is the best thing you can do to build your style of djing imo.

i have not listen to your 2. set so far just skippt through it and for now i can saythe first
is more my kind of thing.....anyway you defintly have some mixing talent.
i have listen more or less 3 times to the first session and i like what you do
that is for sure

Yeah it looks like Soundcloud is more geared towards single tracks rather than full mixes. If I ever become a rich and famous DJ then maybe I'll go back there. So probably never! 😂

Today I gave myself a bit of a challenge which was to mix a bunch of new tracks that I've only heard a couple of times each. So its all new music for me and I was winging it a bit. But I am very happy with how it turned out. It is mostly progressive house, and kind of relaxed, not too pumping.

Let me know if HearThis works better. You should be able to jump back and forth on this one.

Here's a new set with Marek Hemmann included. I was trying a few new mixing techniques and listening back I'm not sure whether its that great but let me know what you think if you have a listen.

I wasn't happy with that mix and I found an EQ setting that I was using wrongly on my controller so I redid the whole set and I'm much happier with it now.

He has mad skills but do you think maybe he should get dressed before filming next time? Or... plot twist: this is you showing off? 😂😂😂

Thanks man. I've been working on better use of the EQ to blend new tracks in. I realised after recording that set the first time that I could still hear the incoming tracks faintly even when the 3 EQ knobs were all zeroed. It turns out there's a software setting that I had to adjust to make them completely zero out, so I redid the whole set and it is way better. I'm learning all the time and slowly getting better without doing anything real tricky or fancy, but I feel confident now that I can just jam out a set at short notice. It's fun!

Operation midnight is awesome, it has some real late 1980s Miami night drive synth vibes going on. But my favourite from that set is probably this one.

Trance Wax - Beul Un Latha (Kevin de Vries Remix)

hahaha Ed
to be honest i don't even notice it anymore ... because at the end of his
2 hour live streams or concerts he is actually always naked ...
hahaha difinitiv a slight exhibitionism fetish.
but the quality and how he performs his music is already
outstanding ... so i don't realy care if he is naked or took a
bath in ketchup or what ever .... hahaha
and he did this kind of performance every time .... he plays some
phrases on his synthesizer and some shakers or whatever and
samples these loops in realtime until a song is developed from this etc.
don't you know him he is a pretty big star
if not check some of his stuff ... not everything is my cup of
tea but the more funky tunes are brilliant .... like this

The cool thing about his performance is that I absolutely believe that most things are improvised and not written beforehand and then pretended to have improvised it during his performances. musicians with enough talent and creativity can definitely do that but unfortunately there are only a few of them but that is exactly what makes this kind of performance so good imo

Yeah wow he's good, and no I'd never heard of him. But I have seen people do similar stuff before. My kids were watching one of those singing talent shows here a while back and they had a girl on it that looped her own voice and beatbox sounds to make music and she was incredible.

This week's mix. It's a bit more laid back for sitting and listening than dancing to bangers but I like it.

I experimented with a 3rd deck for the first time. My controller only has 2 so I have to use the third with the computer and mouse so its not ideal but it worked out ok. I only used beat fx once during the whole set but I think it sounds sweet, though maybe a bit cheesy. See if you can pick it out.

hahaha ....nothing wrong with that
especially when the mix is as cool as "take a chill pill"
fuck ... you nailed it again ... great opener, very good track selection, transitions get better and
better every set ...i'm really impressed how quickly you finished so many really appealing
mixes and belive me if you get it that fast ...then there is much more to come !

a few small things always come to mind when you listen carefully ... like this little
discrepancy in the transition from "worakls - salzburg" to "lane 8 - little voices". when "little voices" starts to flow in it fits
great but when you here the melody louder there is this disharmony of these two tracks that make them seem not very compatible to me ... if you know what i mean. but these are only tiny little things.
overall ... well done to mix 1
