Heinous Food Poisoning

14 replies • Last post

I had quite the bummer of a weekend. It finally started getting warm, and we had weather at and around 60 degrees Fahrenheit (t-shirt weather), so I was really looking forward to it.

Unfortunately, Subway had other ideas for me.

I ended up having a six inch Veggie sub on Friday evening at my local mall. I have to say it tasted good, but a few hours later I knew something was amiss. I was playing the new God of War (amazing game) on my PS4 and was about an hour in when I decided I just didn't feel well. I felt like I had a ball sitting on top of my stomach. I went to bed on the couch as I felt so strange. A few hours later I was freezing cold, sweating bullets, and queasy. That began the worst five hour straight sickness session I've had in a LOOOOONG time.

I believe I got bad spinach from the sub, as everything else wasn't susceptible to going bad. It knocked me down for the better part of two days, and I only had my first real food last night. I still can't eat but a small bit, and I'm still sweating it out, but I'm good enough to operate.

Has anyone else gotten food poisoning like this? Tell me your experiences and how long it lasted.

Jakub

Sorry to hear mate, I've had once or twice some stomach pains or even diarrhea after eating some more exotic foods but never as bad as this.
Didn't even thought you could be food poisoned by a veggie sandwich ( that's why I'm not ordering that probably, a sixth sense 😉 ) but your case is a weird one really, do you think of taking any actions against Subway?

Yup, had some bad Mexican food a few years back and it took turns alternating which end it wanted to come back out of me the entire night. Quite an experience!

The worst one I've ever had took me down for a week. I could not keep anything down and had to gradually get back into food by eating little bits of congee (kind of Chinese porridge made with rice). I feel for you slim, that is not fun.

You should report it to your local health department because if it was something bad at Subway others probably got hit too and if enough people report it and it all turns out that they ate at Subway there can be repercussions. Well at least that's how it works here.

Oh yeah, we reported it. I know there's a big Romaine lettuce recall right now, but haven't heard of anything with spinach. Thankfully I'm back to normal now.

Food poisoning is the worst! A long time ago I stopped at a salad bar after work (it was late at night) in the U.S. and the next day I was very sick. I even ran a fever of 106 degrees F. I went to the hospital because of the high fever. I was told that salads should not be left uncovered for a long amount of time because salmonella can set in.

Drinking lots of water helps (which I tried but it wouldn't stay in). I recently learned about taking activated charcoal to bind up the bad stuff in case it happens again.

Anyway, we have a Romaine lettuce recall here too in the U.S. What's going on??

There is a terrible eColi going around here right now thought to be caused by Romaine lettuce! I heard a doctor discussing this on NPR, and the main takeaway was WASH your food and especially your fruit and veggies. Of course we have no control over this when we trust a restaurant, but at home we can take precautions. This is a very bad one here, where people are ending up in the hospital.

Sorry this happened to you! I am sure you are recovered by now, but that is scary.

My one and only experience with this was when I was in my teens. I had deep fried clams at a place called Mr. Steak. I loved those and now, of course, I cannot look at one.

Be as cautious as you can, friends!

barbadosslim93 I really sympathize with you! When I was 18, I was terribly poisoned with a green salad.
It was terrible. I did not have the strength.I vomited day and night. After it I just lay down on the floor in bathroom and lay there . In the evening my sister came and looked after me for three days.
Since this salad I ate in a cafe, I turned to them for an explanation. Honestly, I was so bad that I thought it was the end. I was inexperienced, most likely it was chemical poisoning, not food poisoning. Because from organic poisoning there could not have such consequences. The cafe paid me for moral damage after that incident .
The salad was like this:

What the heck is in Romaine lettuce that would require a recall and cause stomach upsets?? As someone mentioned above it must have to do with chemicals rather than the produce itself (or maybe unknowingly eating a slug??)

The worst food poisoning I had was from a cup of coffee....they must have used off milk or reheated milk that was sitting out for ages. I only went there because there was no other options, I've learnt my lesson....I'd rather have a caffeine withdrawal headache than experience that again!

Word on the street is that eggs are now causing food poisoning here, too. There's got to be better ways of preparing our food to keep people from getting sick.

oh not a good experience at all...
of cause i hade this so called "food poisoning" for a few times in my life ....and once it hit me so hard
that i thought i must die and i feeled so sick for more then 4 or 5 days (it is long ago so i didt not remember all ditails) but it is allways a good idea to go to a doctor if you feel that bad for more then 24 hours...especially it you think it was bad meat or fish

i hope everything is fine with you again

cheers

btw: i know food poisoning could be dangerous but if it is only that ...everything is fine.
there are so many terrible things that could hit you from nowhere....two years ago, I had a very rare blood disorder called TTP (Thrombotisch-thrombozytopenische Purpura) this is a life-threatening disorder of blood clotting...one week intensive station and four weeks hospital at all with 5 liter daily blood plasma transfusion makes everything else look like a walk through the park....

Luckily I've never gotten food poisoning even though I've accidentally had rancid meat, bad fish and raw eggs a few times. I think it might be something similar to your immune system where having bad food can help you build resistance.

Subway has very high standards too, I'm surprised that happened really, hopefully that particular subway gets a wake up call and starts keeping their standard high like almost all the other ones I say almost because they can't be the only subway restaurant that is on the lazy side .
