I am posting here. I was not even going to enter this year, because I cannot even think straight right now, but I need something to do.
Our dear, precious Otis passed away around 3pm today. I had an appointment for euthansia at 4pm, but he had other ideas, and he passed at home, which is what I wanted for him anyway. I was going to have someone come here, but I just did not have the funds a few days before pay day. He was fine on Thursday, and he went downhill fast.
He is a four year cancer survivor as of October, and he would have been 17 years old on the first day of spring. I was so hoping for one more summer with him, but it was not meant to be.
My heart is truly broken today, CL friends.
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of the things, and no good thing ever dies.
Ah geez. I'm so sorry to hear that hope. I know he was very dear to you. My condolences.

Oh, hope777, I am very sorry to hear about him.
I remember some of your posts about him.
Hope, I'm very sorry to hear about Otis. I have enjoyed all of your threads where you talked about him, so I know that he had a special place in your heart.
You know we're all here to support you if you want to share stories or talk about things.
Thank you so much, everyone. My three sons are equally devastated, because Otis was truly a member of our family. Life will certainly be very different without him. We are all still finding this difficult to believe.
I will post memories and maybe some pics when I am ready.
I truly appreciate your support.
Sorry to hear that hope, you have my commiserations, it's always tough when something like that happen, do you think of a puppy?
Although I didn't know much about you hope or Otis, I do feel sorry for your loss and I wish you the best.
Thank you sharpe and blck. Otis is well known here, through the years, and many here helped with his cancer surgery/treatment - my generous CL angels. So I always updated everyone on Otis.
Not sure what you are asking, sharpe, but we have had him since 10 weeks old, in May of 2000 I brought him home from the breeder. He weighed 3.5 points at that time, and he went on to be a little chubbers, loving his treats, as all dachshunds do. He did start to lose weight after Thanksgiving, so looking back, there were signs, but he still had quality of life up until the last few days.
Not sure what you are asking, sharpe,
Not sure what you are asking, sharpe,
Sorry not being clear hope, I meant do you think of getting a new dog or other pet which could probably ease the pain a bit...
Oh, no worries.
No, I do not believe I will, because I never want to go through this heartache again. Possibly, if I won the lottery or a big jackpot, because I don't ever want to choose between helping my pet and money, and that happened many times with Otis, through the years. People just do not understand how expensive pets can be, but I made a commitment to Otis, so we always found a way, even when it was not easy.
I might possibly foster or get involved in some other way with Dachshund Rescue of Minnesota, but I am not even read for that at this time.
Everybody loved Otis, and he was one in a million. This one is going to take a while for healing.
One of my favorite photos of Otis (among many). I would guess he is between seven and nine years old in the photo. He was at Gull Lake outside Brainerd/Baxter Minnesota, USA, one of his favorite places to be and hunt minnows, and especially squirrels and chipmunks.
We go there many times in the summer, including our (immediate) family picnic annually. It will not be there same there this year, or any years to come, without our dear Otis.

Oh, Otis is so pretty. I had a dog before, I can empathize with you. I feel very very sorry for your loss.
Thank you so much, coolsongss
Just saw this and loved to see dear Otis in the picture.
Sorry to hear about your loss, some people don't realize that our pets become part of our family's and are incredibly missed when it's their time to go. My prayers are with you hope777
I am very sorry for your loss. It is very difficult to lose friends. The dog is the most loyal and reliable friend.(
